Need to hear from Baristas who love their jobs!(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by elsmom84
Hi, I’m an ex pre-pandemic partner. I just reapplied to Starbucks but have been reading some of the posts on here and am a bit worried. Is everyone’s experience lately a bad one? Is there hope that the job can still be fun AND not super stressful? Any good feedback is welcome! Thanks

There’s way more bad stores than good ones
ItzBoogieMan5 points1y ago
That sums up about 80% of this sub. A lot of the good ones closed.

I think covid has made it hard for everyone tbh. customers are crazier than ever. its v stressful but it still can be fun, you just need to like your crew and especially your SM.

I preface every interview I do by telling the candidate it's a super stressful and fast paced job at times with zero down time and super high expectations.
That said, I still have a lot of fun at work and a lot of my team does too. Granted, some of them are burnt out, sassy, jaded individuals but a lot really love it still.

404 ERROR. I’m sorry, the partner you’re looking for does not exist or cannot be found at this time. Please find a time machine and go to Howard Shultz Starbucks.

I like my job. It’s great. There are definitely days I’ve cried, says I’ve gone home and stared at a wall for hours. But genuinely i love this job and wouldn’t want to work anywhere else (as of rn. Still working towards a legit job). And i love the feeling of my store, I’m one of the cafe only stores so bit different than a drive thru store. But i love my job

It's all about your store, plus your mindset to an extent. My SM is a beauty, an absolute legend. My regulars are great. Some partners are ehhhh, but the more often you work with em the more used to their quirks you get. The one off customers I always just tell myself that they're either having a bad day, or I'm never gonna see them again . It's really about perspective, but the store and leadership helps a lot too.

Unfortunately, I think the experience is HEAVILY impacted by your own store. Each store is different, and the people around you are incredibly vital in maintaining your sanity and quelling any anxiety (either helping it calm down or giving you enough time to yourself in the boh).
I absolutely love my coworkers and I really appreciate/like my manager. Yes we’re all emotionally abused and treated like shit by customers, but because we all get along, we can brush/laugh it off and help each other finish the shift on a good note. Even my manager is dope. He makes comments about he’s aware of how SB is mainly focused on dt times and other dumb corporate stuff. But he always stress that if we gotta slow down to better the customer experience and OUR OWN experience, then screw the drive thru times. Obviously we need to be working hard and trying, but he’s like “your well being shouldn’t be compromised. It’s fucking coffee.” He earnestly does his best in helping his team as much as he can.
I would consider myself extremely lucky tho. A few of my coworkers transferred from stores in adjacent districts and their experience seemed like a nightmare. They left the company for a time bc it was so bad.
It sucks tho because you don’t know what store your have until you’re in it :/

I hope you applied to a store with a lot of dark roasted (opposite of green bean) partners with overlapping coverage. I feel like many of the negative posts on here (aside from the supply chain issues which we have no control over) can or could be solved with proper staffing and coverage to alleviate much of the near panic rushing that has been going on lately.

It's not good any more home slice. Tbh, I'd stay away if I were you. I wouldn't come back. It's just another fast food place now.
[deleted]2 points1y ago
Its fast food. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get rad ppl to work with but its still work. Now if you* are able to enjoy work and not get stressed thats great!

I love my coworkers and I love the barista-aspect of my job. However, batshit crazy customers and the company itself I very much don’t like. On days we’re super slow and have time to actually joke around and have a good time while working, it makes me never want to quit. Those days feel like a fever dream. But then we get right back to our usual understaffed, severely busy days and I’m reminded of why I just put in multiple job applications 🙃
It’s truly all about your store. Your coworkers, management, volume, and whether you’re a DT or cafe only store will really make a difference

my last store was really nice, but i got moved/ promoted to ssv and now i’m STRUGGLING
veganwifey2 points1y ago
There will always be good days and bad ones at Starbucks - I absolutely love all of my partners, but of course there’s going to be drama once in awhile. We have a lot of fun while we work, and we all have this sibling-like banter and many of our regulars become part of that fun workplace culture as well!
Not to say my store hasn’t been a shit show the past 2 months (we lost our manager to a higher paying company and she hasn’t been replaced, our remodel got canceled 6 days prior, and school started so everyone’s availability became limited) BUT I truly do love this job just as much as I did in 2014, 2016, and 2019.
Visit the store you’re planning to reapply at and try to get a feel for the team - if you think you’ll fit with them then honestly you’ll be ok💚

secondly, it’s all about the store! there are def good locations and then bad ones! make sure your team is good and your manager is good

I started working about a month ago and I honestly love the job! I work at a licensed store on my college campus so maybe that’s why it’s much less stressful than other places but I really enjoy making drinks and I’m kinda excited to go to work next week

I was just hired as an ASM this week (outside hire but previous starbucks tenure,) and I have been stalking this and the main starbucks community just to gather as much insight as I can about what baristas and SSVs are really saying they want and need most out of their management, especially in one of the most unprecedented times in history to be working in food service/ retail.
Thank to everyone for sharing their honest experiences in these threads ❤️

I was hired during the pandemic. I love my job! It can be a little stressful with the understaffing and shortages but other than that I still enjoy coming to work.
Efficient-Ad62351 points1y ago
So crazy. I have been with the company pre covid and post covid and I was just talking about this with another shift and thought is there a way the company could ever get back to what it is supposed to be known for or will it always be stressful and upsetting
TylerJ7161 points1y ago
I only like my job cause I work at a Cafe. No crazy drive thru, no stress about window times, its a lot better for me. But I also know that cafes are more rare these days. The store I started at was a Cafe store once and turned into a drive, same with my childhood Starbucks now being a drive thru. So if you can find a Cafe store I'd bank on that
Mentally-ill-bitch1 points1y ago
I’ve been here for 3 months and I love it tbh, hopefully it’ll stay like that until I quit to work full time in the culinary industry after college

I’ve been working for 2 and a half months and I really like my job!! I have amazing coworkers and I actually enjoy what I’m doing most of the time! :)
apple_low1 points1y ago
There's zero wrong with my store I will say that. Absolutely nothing about the store or workers I hate. So I absolutely love it for that! I love my coworkers and the customers are never too much of anything. Simple and easy. I work in a mall though btw. But lol I'd be lying if I said I love working.
peachyyybabeee1 points1y ago
I love the job! of course there are days that suck and there are customers who should be banished from the store lol but I still have fun! my coworkers are great and we make the best out of shitty situations! it’s easy to complain cus this job is super difficult at times, but so is any huge corporation job unfortunately!
