Opening shifts (self.starbucksbaristas)

Is it normal to be scheduled for opening shifts with less than 10 hours of training?

I’m a green bean who recently got hired and I’ve only worked less than 10 hours. Next week I’m not on the schedule to work at all however the following week I am doing opening shifts at 4:30 with one other person.

Is this normal? Who’s supposed to make drinks, pos and train me?

I was hired on for opening shifts which makes sense, but I’m literally way too new still.

FYI the store is leadership kind of sucks ass.

It's not unusual per se, when I was a new hire I was trained primarily through opening shifts, however my store at the time had three openers so there wasn't any undue burden on anyone. If there is a third person coming in soon after opening then your store probably has super slow early mornings and theyre banking on your fellow partner being able to hop in to make the few drinks you'll get until the third comes in before the crowds arrive.

Then again you might just have shite trainers and have a fun few days of hell ahead of you. Good luck and deep breaths!

I’m not sure how other stores are, but that’s what happened to me.. 3 days of actually training, 1 midday shift, and then the next day I opened. And my training was during evening shift and no one trained me how to open. Baptism by fire I guess :’) Tbh I feel really bad for green beans that have to open. Bc they weren’t prepared for the pace of peak and they freak out. I think that’s the reason why so many leave quickly.
