Covid/isolation/store closing/rant (self.starbucksbaristas)

My store is being heavily impacted by the labor shortage..particularly management. One shift leader walked out, another shift manager is completing their two weeks notice this week, and our third shift is out with covid. Our store manager is isolating with covid-like symptoms, and we do not have an ASM. That being said, we have no one to manage the shifts, and our store is closing.

Im still a fairly new green bean (started in April), and this is my first job ever in food. I'm terrified of having to work in another store as I've never worked in a drive through location. Also nervous about advocating for myself and making sure the partners use my correct pronouns (they/them).

Any advice on working shifts at unfamiliar locations??

When I came back to work after a stretch as a stay at home mom and in the service before that, I loved seeing now progressive things had become but worried I might screw up. Habits are hard to break and I tend to default to "hon" and "dude" when I forget names so I'm working on that. I so appreciate that my coworker writes they/them on their nametag - it put me at ease with the visual reminder until I got used to it. I like to think most people want to do right regarding pronouns, especially if drawn to a customer service, more progressive industry. Long story short, include your pronouns on your nametag and you may not even have to mention it out loud.

working in a new store is a weird experience! it’ll feel a lot like your first day just with some advantages. you won’t know where anything is but the partners will know this so it’s really okay just to ask. they will probably do some things differently but again, don’t be afraid to ask questions. they will probably put you in window just because they don’t know your abilities but be patient, they’ll eventually put you somewhere else. as for your pronouns, if you’re comfortable with it i would communicate with a shift your worries and hopefully they will ensure people will use the correct pronouns. the first time i worked at another store, they put me on front and didn’t tell me they set drip coffees and teas as non-printing tags since at their store it was front’s responsibility to grab it and i had soooo many customers waiting for their tea and drips lmao but hey it happens! not your fault if anything like that happens. & don’t forget your tips next week!
