Shit that happened this week (Rant/log)(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Kristotf
On Monday the other store in our area closed, and we weren't aware until our customer headcount nearly doubled.
On Tuesday we had 3 partners call in sick, and we realized one of our closer's shift started an hour before he was out of school. Other store still closed.
By noon on Wednesday we had to put up signage in drive and cafe asking customers to be considerate after two separate interactions were so bad a partner of years went home in tears. Other store opened but only for drive through, so we still got lots of extra traffic.
Thursday was my day off and I was called in because more partner's are out sick. My manager has been on the floor open to close for 3 days in a row now. Other store closed again.
Friday we are a skeleton crew, more partner's called out. We close cafe and met our sales goal through drive before 9am. I was screamed at by an adult man after asking what size he wanted his flat white in. I see all my friends cry today. Other store is closed. My manager has worked 50 hours on our floor over 4 days, he is completely burnt out.
Saturday (today) we were staffed to what we were scheduled for, but it wasn't enough. Cafe was opened. Two 50+ transaction half hours starting at 10, and we're nearly out of food already. Yelled at by a woman in front of child because I didn't have any trays left for their 1 drink order. Homeless man starts sleeping in our drive through, can barely take orders over people yelling and honking at him. When my shift was over I bailed out so fast.

my regional manager has not picked up her phone in a week!!!! we are setting sales RECORDS and she'll get a bonus!!!!!!!! if I get called in tomorrow I'M going to cry
miitopia_emblem62 points1y ago
Do not pick up that phone. As far as they’re concerned, you have “prior commitments/obligations”. You are “unavailable”. Do NOT pick up that phone!

I’ve been called in three times in the last week; today I just couldn’t say yes. Especially since tomorrow is a 4:30 am shift

Someone offered me $20 to cover their shift at another store that wss the exact same as mine 😫
The money is so nice especially with super light scheduling.

I'm out of the group chat, baby. I NEVER go in on days off anymore.
Kristotf [OP]11 points1y ago
to be clear I have not tried to contact my manager but every day I have asked my manager if there has been ANY attention payed to our store, and the answer has been no. i just hate that there's someone who does so little for my store that will likely benefit from our performance. i'm a goddamn partner and own stocks in this fucking company and somehow someway, I do not get my concerns acknowledged beyond the walls of the store. and my team has to go through it too. I HATE seeing young adults cry. I HATE seeing my friends cry. because we're getting overworked so hard with expectations and stress levels so high and my area.

call corporate and complain about her. She shouldn't be getting bonuses off your hard work when she's not doing her job.

Say no
Kristotf [OP]2 points1y ago
I WILL! The money is just nice, hours are tight.

I don’t know if I should upvote this cause I’m super proud you or the rest of the partners didn’t just quit, or if I should down vote this cause it makes me super mad

I couldn't care less about my reddit score so react however your heart reacts

I am so so sorry for you all... the fact that you're all still working should mean bonus automatically. I wish there was help to be given... this is why I almost can't say no to helping out in my own district. I feel for everyone so much and know that if I take extra shifts I'll be helping out many people so they don't have to go through their own shift understaffed or if they do then at least it's not as badly understaffed. Idk. At this point. It's all wild and I wanna give everyone a hug.

You have a good heart, but please don't burn yourself out! Remember that your self care is important too!
ElectricPsychopomp5 points1y ago
*Do not set yourself on fire to keep others warm.*
You gotta take care of yourself, boo, or else you're going to burn out fast and be no good to anyone, yourself included.

This company cannot figure out how to operate properly. My manager worked sixty hours in one week before she took a short leave to receive a surgery. After she left, we ran out of hand soap. I told my management to buy some, they didn't, so I bought some myself.
I haven't experienced any abuse from customers, thank god, but I'm not gonna fucking tolerate it, if it were to happen. I don't understand why people think there isn't still a pandemic. It's getting hard to manage the maskless people because we keep running out of masks because tons of people come in our store without one. (My state has a mandate.) I printed out a sign in color and posted it on the front door myself today. (Our other one had been blown by the wind so much it had started to rip and someone took it down.) Starbucks took away our right to refuse service to them and I don't WANT to get abused by them, so we take their order anyway, right? It's just not worth getting into an argument over over fifty times a day because THAT'S how many people don't give a shit about our state mask mandate. As if any of them are going to go through the drive-thru if I ask them to. The drive-thru line is long as fuck. If Starbucks cared about our safety, we'd be drive-thru only. I'm not polite to the maskless people. Here's how it goes:
Me: (tiredly) Do you HAPPEN to have a mask with you? Customer: (emphatically and annoyedly) No. Me: All right, well, I don't have one to give to you, so I guess I'll take your order anyway. \[or just\] (monotone) What can I get for you?
People can go fuck themselves.

My store is in almost exactly the same situation rn and we have a big event bringing in millions of tourists to my tiny ass town. Ive been staying late and coming in on off days, and my SM has been on the floor open to close for weeks. We are struggling. Good luck ❤
Kristotf [OP]5 points1y ago
There's no events or anything going on in my area, restrictions are actually getting tighter here. My guess is that means people are going to Starbucks instead of their regular spot. I've worked the same store nearly 4 years total and it's never been busier. It's so hard and I know how you feel and it SUCKS! Best of luck ❤

I cannot even fathom how you all are still maintaining. I have nothing but respect and a sense of awe for you and your partners. I swear, if a customer ever gave a hard time to one of my baristas so much that it brought them to tears, I'd likely be fired the next day for the massive verbal assault I'd toss at them.
