Someone here recommended oxyclean and it's helped mine out a lot!

I soaked them in it for a few hours before I tossed it in the wash.
Decent_Macaron3444 [OP] 10 points 1y ago
thank u 👍 ill try it out soon
designated-grapes 18 points 1y ago
I made the mistake of soaking other stuff with it not knowing that the green came out so I recommend doing your aprons separately!

Try to wash them pretty frequently. I only wear each apron for like 2-3 shifts and wash them at the end of the week. I use odor remover powder in the wash (which I *think* is oxyclean brand) as well as regular detergent. I also wash them separately and on warm or hot.

The green has faded a little bit over time, but my aprons are not stained and they don’t stink up my car so I’m content.

this makes me wonder if you threw it in a small bin, when you weren't working, with a open box of baking soda would the baking soda work as well as it does for fridge odors.
Very-_-Disappointing 2 points 1y ago
I think it could help to some degree yeah. The issue is that the aprons do literally have old milk on them though, so it might be helpful while they’re sitting between shifts to keep your car or room air from stinking, but until you wash them, the milk is just going to continue to spoil on there, so the apron itself will be smelly. But any odor removal methods will have an improvement I’m sure.

I have to wonder if countering the base with an acid and just having some white vinegar in the car to pour on the milk spots and then air dry in the car might help counter that curdling milk smell. But that would have to be trialed by someone else as I don't work at starbucks :)

Adding vinegar to the wash will help get the smell out.
KeyCranberry 7 points 1y ago
Seconded. I'd soak them in warm water with a little vinegar for like an hour before washing them too and it really helped
sagataurcan 22 points 1y ago
Smoke a bunch of cigarettes and then you’ll just smell like smoke 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

Baking soda...just sprinkle it on the entire apron and rub it in with brush and let it sit for an hour, then wash it.
Swimming_Agent_6849 6 points 1y ago
I wash my aprons after wearing them once and try to wash them immediately after work if they get really dirty
Decent_Macaron3444 [OP] 4 points 1y ago
i usually clean them within a day of working but i think that's enough time for the funk to seep in🙁 ill try washing them right after my shifts instead
Fit-Nefariousness412 5 points 1y ago
The pod detergent from “Dropps” is really good along with their fabric softener. Also baking soda and vinegar is a really good natural way to get smell out.

Clorox laundry sanitizer. Never fails

Swap it out for a new one if you know where the box containing them are
_circuts 3 points 1y ago
But wouldn't the whole box eventually smell like milk then?
ElectricPsychopomp 3 points 1y ago
Like someone said, Oxyclean is pretty good. You can get that from the dollar store. Though I personally would soak it in white vinegar and then wash it. Keep the old white vinegar on hand in your bucket til your apron is washed and dried though incase you need to soak it again.
bee-kin_d 3 points 1y ago
Soak it for 30 minutes with oxyclean, change the water, soak for 30 minutes with oxyclean and detergent, wash with detergent and heavily scented fabric beads.
ahbeeceeess 2 points 1y ago
Where are you from that you have to keep an apron and wash it yourself? For us we take a brand new, unworn one every shift and we have a company (same one that supplies mop heads and white sani cloths) pick them up and drop off laundered ones weekly
heygirlhowyoubean 3 points 1y ago
Wait what? I have like ten thousand that I’ve kept over the past two years and washed 😭
eggoverdose 2 points 1y ago
i used to throw in a cup of vinegar with my load. it works well!
LatterRooster 2 points 1y ago
Original tide powder. I use it for everything. It gets all the stinks out of everything.
elodieme1 2 points 1y ago
I have good luck with tide pods 4 in 1, the container is like purple? Although I don't see bar as much now that I'm a shift, but it usually does the job really well!
postmoderntesla 2 points 1y ago
i combine oxy clean and scent booster pebble things
DaddyGray69 2 points 1y ago
Soap I think helps
emm881 1 points 1y ago
I hand wash mine, only use them 3-4 before I bring out a different apron
Kimmikkokat 1 points 1y ago
You can boil the aprons too. With just a dash of white vinegar, like a very small amount. Itty bitty amount. So it'll help get the smell out and not smell like vinegar. I do it once a month or so on top of washing them every other shift.
priskillettt 1 points 1y ago
I wash mine with hot water detergent and vinegar. I pour the soap into the little cup and also mixed the vinegar in the cup with soap
Sparkflyr 1 points 1y ago
I recommend adding a bit of white vinegar with your load and normal detergent. My partner works at a pig farm and it helps as a deodorizer gets rid of all the bad smells he comes home with. Don't worry the vinegar smell isn't there after the wash.
normaldud 1 points 1y ago
Hot water and a bit of dawn with my regular detergent usually gets the job done
maybae-xxx 1 points 1y ago
I just use the little Downey smelling beads and they come out smelling fresh.
Lauri925 1 points 1y ago
I wash mine with white vinegar and laundry beads plus soap. Plus wash them on extra sanitary.
rio8envy7 1 points 1y ago
Wash it

Lysol makes a product designed to get odors out of clothes.
stinkycroagunk 1 points 1y ago
Idk if this is advisable but I boil mine,,,
ryzzostar 1 points 1y ago
1/2 cup of lemon Lysol and 1 cup of baking soda in the wash does it for mine. I wash all of my work clothes and aprons together. Works on stinky shoes as well. Soak for a bit before if you think it's really stinky. Also baking soda brightens whites and colors without bleaching darks.
guysiah 1 points 1y ago
Adding baking soda to the wash. Kills most smells
coffeegirrrl 1 points 1y ago
Borax and "washing soda" work wonders, but I've had great experience with just plain baking soda- even when I worked for a burger place and my work clothes smelled like grease and onions.
ChiffonDream 1 points 1y ago
wash them with borax powder :D
Classic-Vehicle7910 1 points 1y ago
I soak mine if they get rly bad hot water and oxyclean
