so i just got hired and i’m at a loss at where to find plain but not ugly clothes lmao. any advice or stores to recommend? thank u!
FlippinAsian29 points1y ago
Honesty who gives a fuck if it’s ugly. At the end of the day you wear your apron over everything so it doesn’t even matter

you make a very good point lmao, thank you

Agreed the bleach and possibly long staining smells. I don’t wear good clothes to work anymore 😖

i ordered a bunch of plain t-shirts (brown, black, cream) from h&m and they work wonderfully. cheap too. sometimes i wear nice clothes to work but they always have that starbucks smell after work :/
don’t wear long-sleeve white shirts. don’t wear expensive things to work. don’t wear heavy sweaters. you’ll sweat so much.

H&M is great for plain basics

I always got things from thrift shops, except shoes, get a comfy pair of non-slip shoes you won’t regret it
gabicav [OP]5 points1y ago
ooo what shoes do you recommend ?
CoffeMugThief6 points1y ago
I don’t have any specific recommendations, just make you go to a store or two to try on the shoes to make sure you like them. I don’t remember what mine were but I called them “rubber bricks” those bad boys were $60 but lasted me like 3 years of wear 8 hours a day. Getting a specific pair of shoes to wear to work will save you grief

nonslip vans 🙌🏼

I recommended non slip converse!! I also wear a pair of sketchers and they’re comfortable, and we get a 30% discount there

If u need something cheap but decently durable to get you started, Walmart construction boots worked for me. Just PLEASE don’t try wearing nicer clothes. So many new baristas have ruined nice, new clothing and it makes me so so sad

Girl, it’s a job. Just wear the ugly clothes!

get leather shoes. you can clean them easier, and if you spill something on them you can’t feel it. really any non-canvas shoe should be good. (i personally just mop mine once they get too dirty lol) i also went to the men’s section in walmart and bought one of the multi-packs of tshirts when i first started, just so i wasn’t wearing the same shirt every day.

goodwill/secondhand shops are your friend. also sketchers work shoes are the absolute best, next to crocs. just remember you'll probably spill stuff on yourself so you don't wanna wear something you like 😂
briannuzzi3 points1y ago
tbh you’re gonna stop caring about your clothes real quick when you realize no matter what shoes or shirts you wear, it’s gonna get stained and gross every time 😂 just get anything simple like a black or solid tee shirt and black pants that are cheap and you won’t care much about

Hit up Old Navy! I grabbed a couple plain black shirts from them on clearance specifically for work and it’s great. If I get milk on them, I get milk on them. Whatever. That’s why I bought em!

neutral colored sweaters from the thrift store and jeans are my go to. Cute but affordable.

Mark's Work Warehouse

Thrift if you can but a store like H&M is a great option so is Walmart
tekkil1 points1y ago
H&M men's section is my favorite place to buy plain clothes, pretty wide range of sizes and cuts. Pretty good quality too. Old navy, thrift shops are also really good

One thing I might add? When you can afford it, get a *good* pair of shoes. Take the insoles out and replace them with runners insoles. I always bought my clothes at thrift stores, but my feet thanked me for those nurses clogs.

All my work clothes are from target. The Universal Thread line makes great jeans and the a new day line has the best tshirts!
yoonade211 points1y ago
Target, I bought 2 pairs of pants for $20 each and 5 shirts that were $5-$10 each. They’re very durable and are comfy.
