…and by “made” me, I mean I was the one who made that choice at the end of the day. But to say that this job isn’t doing my mental health any favors would be an understatement.

I was with Starbucks 2013 - 2018, then took on other jobs, got clean, needed a job asap and my manager who I accidentally ran into hired me back right away. What I didn’t expect was how different working for this company would be now as opposed to back then. It’s honestly so sad but it is what it is. I’m planning on putting my two weeks in tomorrow but I’m really scared to do it. It’s like preparing for a breakup.

you have to do what’s best for yourself both mentally and physically! you will find a better space/job that feels supportive instead of destructive! i’m proud of you for making this change!

I started with Starbucks in October 2011 and it was such a great company back then.

I loved everything about the company. It WAS completely different back then. It was more coffee based, more focused on our health as a Barista. It wasn't concerned with Drive Times and speed.

However I am lucky to work at a great store. It seems from all of the horror stories I have heard my store has faired better than most. But I do still see the decline of a once great company.

BTW, I would talk to your friend, the manager, if you feel comfortable confiding in him. Starbucks should still offer substance counseling. Check the handbook or the partner hub. Try to get them to pay for it!

I’m so proud of your decision to set a boundary and take care of yourself. Recognizing what’s causing you to use and taking steps to remove it is the first step (and often the hardest).

Well done!

Hi. I am two years on the road of recovery and an SM so what I am about to say I do not take lightly.

Please quit. And attempt to get your last few shifts covered so you can leave it in the past. This job is hard and it’s tough.
I thankfully love it and it has helped me more than hurt me, but.. your sobriety is far more important than a latte.
I wish you all the best. And remember one day at a time.
