Customers have no idea how STRESSFUL this job is (self.starbucksbaristas)

And yet they, as well as management, expects you to be the perfect customer service worker. I'm in my car after screaming and screaming my frustrations out because a customer complained to one of my managers that I was "too forceful" with closing tonight. (It was just me and my coworker who hasn't been trained on register yet.)

I've been working my 110% for the past week dealing with being short-staffed and understocked. I work at the airport so the amount of people that come by NEVER goes down. Yet I was pulled aside to get a talking to about my "attitude" tonight because ONE guy thought I was being rude when really I'm just trying to get through this line and close up so I can home to sleep early for my next shift.

I think that's what did it for me and it sucks to admit it took just one person for me to break down but customers just inherently make me so doubtful of any empathy now and expectant of them being just as shitty because in my experience in working at Starbucks, thats ALL I've experienced. It feels really shitty because I sincerely enjoy being a barista. This job has flaws but I like doing my job well.

This has proven to be very detrimental to my mental health and this subreddit only shows me that I'm not alone. Our baristas are being consistently overworked and constantly abused by the people they serve.

I'm so sorry you had such a horrid day. It's good to hear that you like the job, but just not your location. Is there no chance of transferring to a regular store?

I wish I could offer more in the way of assistance or even encouragement. Hopefully you could look into another location without having to leave the company entirely. Despite the number of posts about bad stores or customers, I know good ones are out there. I got lucky enough to find one. And I live on an island. I'm sure there has to be a simple enough solution for you! Hang in there!

Yes! We've got your back! I personally can't imagine working in an airport. I can only imagine it being literally non-stop all shift.

I work in a fairly busy, high volume store. We are surrounded by two major hospitals in the SW region of my state. On top of that we are located by the Mall, Shopping Centers and Universities. We are always moving.

We deal with "fun" people on the regular. Take it in strides. I've gotten better at leaving all of that negativity at the store. After my shift ends ( Usually around 1:30) I have to wait on my fiancé to get off work at one of the said Hospitals. I always take a change of clothes, face wipes, anything that helps me get out of that "uniform". It's always something I recommend. Helps change your mindset immediately.
