Our card reader broke today and we had several signs up to let everyone know. This dude walks in and orders a coffee ($2.41). He has cash in his hand, so I assume he understood. Then, he pulls out his card and tried to swipe. I let him know it doesn’t work and that he can only pay cash. He yells at me saying he only has $2 and not the change. I said sorry, I can’t just give it out if he can won’t pay full price (I’d def get in trouble if I did). Then he pulls out a hundred dollar bill and I said I can’t break a $100 for a $2 drink and he starts yelling “WELL WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO THEN?!” Uhhhh……leave…???

It even happened at the fast food restaurants surrounding us. All of the card readers were broken in the area.

To be fair, if they’re short less than 50¢ I’ll usually just take what they have, cash it out as “exact change”, and short the drawer the few cents. I guess it helps that I’m an SSV so it’s really my call as far as “making the moment right”, however I also absolutely will not do this if they’re rude about it. I will bend over backward for nice people, rude people get shit.

My manager told us just to right now recovery it. This guy had just ordered 25+ drinks over 100$ and he got it all. for free.

my co-worker was on DTO and said “sorry just to let you know we aren’t accepting card payments because our machine is broken. we’re only taking cash or starbucks card” and this lady got all grumbly like “i just got a new phone and i can’t download the app and i don’t have cash on me >:((“ i’m sorry but what do you want us to do?? 😭

We had people yell at us that there should be a sign saying we couldn’t accept cards. We did. We had three of them. Two in drive and one in cafe. People got very pissy when I pointed that out. Not my fault you couldn’t take the three seconds to read the damn signs.
