ok so i keep getting scheduled consecutively 7+ days in a row. my stores gone through a shit ton of managers and i tell everyone i cannot do that many days in a row, to which they say next schedule it won’t happen. i’m 18 and live in an apartment 800 miles from my parents and am in college (scap program) well they keep doing it and they made the new schedule again and i’m once again 7 days in a row and they’re all training shifts (which last time i trained 2 people at once) i’m so done and just want to quit and they have one of my good friends (1 of the 2 shifts we have) opening AND closing. Is it worth quitting and paying for college? i just submitted a new availability, but idk. really feeling defeated. should i stick it out or make huge life changes lol. feeling so overwhelmed and not listened to😇 just want to cry i’m so tired of being there everyday and coming home tired and crabby from dealing with the illiterate idiots starbucks calls customers

Call partner contact center. Starbucks has rules aganst working 7 days in a row without your promotion.

Call out of the shifts you don’t want the night before. Your manager is gonna learn one way or another that you are not working the days u asked off. You’re being over worked bc Starbucks is struggling to find people to work for them. They won’t get rid of you for demanding a day off once a week.

I just feel so guilty because i’m training people all of these shifts. will they just have someone else train them? i never call in because i feel guilted into not lol

They’ll figure it out. Your manager is taking advantage of you. Ask for a specific day off. Lie and say you have class and lab that day. No one should be working 7 days in a row. You’ll get drained fast doing that.

Do not feel guilty. You have every right for this request.

Honestly, I understand you feeling guilty for calling in. I felt the same too when my managers would schedule me on the days that I can't work, and I would have to call out. I then realized that I was going out of my way to remind them of my availability, and they were continuously ignoring me. After many frustrating days and stressful times, I've kind realized that I'm not responsible for the fact that they can't hire people, or keep them hired. I've worked my ass off, and was being taken advantage of. I think we all have to realize that the downfall of this company is not our fault, and that our lives and mental health is most important. Being overworked and ultimately ignored is really hard to deal with and at the end of the day, if they can't respect you, then don't feel bad for respecting yourself.

Make yourself unavailable at least one day a week -- if they schedule you it's on them

I just submitted a new availability request heheh

I don't know you personally obv or your exact situation but see if that helps or at least gives some sanity. Otherwise try shorting your hours like 4a to 12p or whatever and if they keep scheduling you outside that contact HR and keep a record

this was happening to me like twice a month i kept having like 8-10 days in a row bc my days off each week were different (I had open availability) and i would be opening some days and closing other days. it was exhausting. my manager wasn’t doing it on purpose but i changed my availability and set 2 specific days off each week so that it wouldn’t happen again. before sometimes id be off like a Monday and Tuesday one week then Saturday and Sunday of the next which meant I’d be working 10 days straight. now I set it to where I’m off Wednesday and Sunday so the most days I can be scheduled in a row is 3.

Change your availability so you get the same day off per week, it will make it so you won't be able to work more than 5 days in a row if they schedule you your two days off per week

I did! thank you:)

Just don't show up. When they ask why, tell them you made it clear you couldn't work that much. You might get fired, I suggest writing a new resume and looking for one of the dozens of jobs available right now.

But they'll get the message not to fuck with you specifically. Jobs like this are predicated on exploitation. Collectively, we need to fight back and take back our dignity.

This is ridiculous. Ignore this advice.
Babeygoo [OP] 2 points 1y ago
i didn’t wanna be mean to them but ya i was like Ok? and my mental health is rapidly declining but go off 😭

yea 7+ days in a row is so tiring it’s insane, and do it multiple times is even worse. I also do SCAP and am a trainer and the times I’ve worked past my set number of hours messes up my whole schedule it’s ridiculous. I hope you’re able to work less soon!!

It sounds like you’ve already spoken to your manager(s) but definitely mention one more time that if you can’t work less you’ll have to quit, that should get them to understand how serious you are.
