If you’re friends with any of the baristas, sometimes you might have to make some tough calls if they go against policy. You have to have that right balance, it’ll help a lot. Also communication with your team is key and prioritizing and using your time efficiently. I’ve been a shift lead for 4 years and that’s helped me a great deal, hope it helps you too. 🤟

just make sure you have a good relationship w you manager, i just quit because my manager was treating me like an idiot all the time, so as long as you’re with someone you’re comfortable with you should be ok

So much this! I have had three GMS in the last two years. The two before this one were literally the best people to work for/with. It’s been two weeks with the new one and I don’t know if it’s me or them, but something is off. Become a shift lead, u deserve a pay increase because ur probably already doing some of the things that leads do. Be the leader you wish you had when u started working for the company. Other than that, it’s a job that will make u learn how to juggle a lot of things all at once. Much like many other jobs. Don’t take it too seriously and don’t forget to be kind/understanding to the people u work with.

Hi! I used to be a shift lead getting looked at for an ASM position at my original store. My original store was chaotic, busy as hell and had a ton of problems with our SM. However, we got along and the rest of the shifts and I ran the store. Didn’t really mind the amount of work and responsibility and was actually excited to possibly move up. I ended up having to transfer to another store, and boy. That was ROUGH. My new store manager was an absolute nightmare. Long story short, DM phone calls were involved and I stepped down because of how detrimental to my mental and emotional health this new situation turned out to be. My advice here is to not be afraid to stand up for yourself. Remember that you are no ones bitch and that a lot of the times, you’ll know more than your SM does. Stand up for your partners. Without them your store falls apart. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for help. If things get tricky or difficult with your SM, don’t be afraid to reach out to your DM. If that doesn’t work, go higher. If you ask, they have to give you that info. Last but not least, take ALL of your breaks. Don’t be a hero by skipping your 10s. You’ll wish you had taken them. The best of luck!
