How do you feel? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SorchaVyrwel
Is it annoying to you or how do you feel if someone comes in and shows you the drink order written out? Like genuinely just curious.

As long as you’re nice about it, I don’t mind. It’s the people that just come shove their phones in my face without saying anything that are annoying.
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 8 points 1y ago
Oh yeah that definitely would be rude. I always ask if it’s okay that I show it to them because I don’t want to be rude.

If it's a complicated drink I prefer it when they have it written down. That way they can match the sticker to their recipe and cant say we made it wrong lol
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 5 points 1y ago
Okay cool! I try not to have too complicated of a drink order but if I add like two of more things I like to write it down and show the barista because it’s faster and easier than me saying it
PastelPinkStrawberry 4 points 1y ago
Honestly I dont mind making super complicated drinks if the person is nice and patient about the whole process! But yeah, having it written down is way easier than someone trying to remember what a facebook post said
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Oh yeah for sure
sofso 12 points 1y ago
We have deaf and HoH customers who order like this. It's fine!
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Oh yeah that definitely makes sense
emmgibbzz6669 9 points 1y ago
i wouldn’t mind at all it’s better than customers trying to make me watch a minute long tik tok in the middle of peak
keskobalt 7 points 1y ago
I’m okay with it written down but if someone shows me another gottdamn tiktok I’m gonna fly into the sun. Like how her is it to write that down especially when I have to watch if multiple times like come on! Or even worse when they have to find the tiktok while ordering like you didn’t even have this ready really ?
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Oh yeah I don’t do that because if I have to pause the TikTok just to see the audio there’s no way someone can read it and write it down with it playing. Also I know how annoying it is if people come into my beauty store and say “do you guys have that thing from TikTok” like which one? Lol but in all seriousness I can see why that is super frustrating and you have every right to be upset
lat3spr1ng 7 points 1y ago
I don’t mind! in fact it’s much easier for someone to have a written drink order than to have to guess the ingredients/which drink it is for both the customer and the barista
inudab 5 points 1y ago
if it’s a long order, i prefer them to show me their phone. it’s a lot easier
haydensidun 4 points 1y ago
I like it, especially if it’s a complicated order. But it really pisses me off when they show me the written order for like two seconds and take it away as if I’m able to process everything written on there in a split-second glance. I have literally never, not once in a whole year, been shown a written order without having to ask the customer to continue showing me the order so I can ring them up correctly.
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 4 points 1y ago
Oh no I’m so sorry! I try to hold it up until they say they got it all or until I see them stop writing and looking at the screen
haydensidun 6 points 1y ago
That’s the way to do it. Thank you for giving your baristas time to process what’s on your screen :)
DebtGlum 3 points 1y ago
I actually much rather prefer it, I hate it when people spit their order out at me and when I ask them to slow down or if the order is right and recite it back to them they get annoyed
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Yeah I understand that
WingsofFlight 3 points 1y ago
Doesn't bother me. Long as it is clear, I don't mind how people order. We have a regular customer who is deaf and so he writes his order down on his phone.
bluezuzu 3 points 1y ago
I think it’s easier honestly. When they’re speaking the order sometimes they say things in an inconvenient order and you’re stuck remembering this ridiculous long drink order before you get the info you needed first. When it’s written down I can take my time putting it in
_abbycadabby_ 3 points 1y ago
I like it 👍 but would prefer a little courtesy, like, "Hey, this isn't a menu item. Can I show you the drink ticket on my phone?" Or literally anything besides staying silent and not looking at me and just holding out the phone in front of me like I'm a goddamn QR reader.
binf--bird 3 points 1y ago
I don’t mind. I’d rather be able to consult exactly what the customer wants rather than ask them to repeat themselves and risk them getting annoyed with me. The only thing that bothers me a little is they never take the recipe back and I have to go throw it away.

That makes sense. I always just ask if it’s okay beforehand
awesomechief989 1 points 1y ago
I had someone who I thought was deaf once and tried to tell them oh I know a little sign language tk help. Because she never said anything and showed me her phone. She responded with her voice “oh I’m not deaf it’s just easier so my Oder doesn’t get messed up this way” my jaw dropped. How could she act like that XD
navkabar 1 points 1y ago
why dont you just memorize the order and say it to us?
SorchaVyrwel [OP] 1 points 1y ago
That is a very valid question. I sometimes mix up my words without realizing it and I’ve done it on multiple occasions where I messed up my drink order and I never ask for it to be changed because they gave me what I ordered. And I always like to order new things that have more things added to the base drink so I find it easier on the barista (if they are okay with it) and myself to just ask if they don’t mind reading what I wrote down instead of me saying it. Also my Starbucks tends to be really loud so the baristas are having to ask people to speak up because it’s hard to hear anyone in there. So all in all I find it easier on not just me, but the employee as well.

thank u for being kind in your response! that does make sense, i can definitely attest that hearing people when 50+ people are in the cafe is difficult.
