Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

My manager refused to call Hazmat and close the store after a kid puked all over the hand off plane. So, she cleaned the vomit off the serving counter with a broom and a dustpan. I’ve already reported the issue, but I just needed you guys to know. I’m sick of working under this person. (self.starbucksbaristas)

one time someone left a trail of poo from the bathroom out to the cafe, the cafe closed but we still had to run the dt. not to mention the poo sat there overnight because the people who were supposed to clean it didn’t show up that night.

Once a manager who was subbing at my store wanted to unclog the sink with a toilet plunger from our bathroom… I taught her how to do it with a dome lid instead.

i just reach my hand in that mf and pull out what is likely to just be strawberry inclusions

In the cold bar sink, for us at least, it went deeper than just the surface of the drain. Sometimes my little fingers couldn’t get whatever it was clogging it.

ahhh yucky!

… how do you do it with a dome lid?
GlorisSkates 27 points 1y ago
Basically you push it down on top of the drain and then use the palm of your hand as the suction part. Push it as you would a plunger until your sink unclogs!
LilacFlores 8 points 1y ago
That is absolutely genius!

I just want to say thank you! I used this today and it worked really well!

When it’s bad I’ll use an empty but double-charged whip cream canister

My store called hazmat a few times. Just some cleaning people with Lysol, not in hazmat suits, showed up and wiped everything down and left.

I mean I still support calling them—and definitely closing the store until that kinda thing gets cleaned—but I felt kinda bad after that.

hey a job's a job, they get paid, you don't have to deal with it, it's kind of a win-win situation. my store calls hazmat like probably 2x a month, idk wtf people are doing in our bathrooms but *gotdam* its gross
Used_Thought4672 3 points 1y ago
I had no idea hazmat was a thing? Like I started in restaurants in a small town and the employees definitely clean it up with gloves and just whatever cleaners are on hand… is this just for bigger cities or is this a thing I just missed somehow

It’s a Starbucks thing. I couldn’t tell you if it’s available everywhere. I don’t think I’ve seen too many genuinely small towns with a Starbucks though.

Call DM then corporate lol.
echowolf9 12 points 1y ago
Did you call your dm? The dm can make a decision over the sm. Once my dm didn’t want to close the store but partners started arguing with him how there was blood. He didn’t want to deal with it and closed the store, but your dm could also be concerned about food safety.

omg ew wtf

just threaten to unionize my area did it and now corporate gives us everything we want and fired all the shitty managers

My supervisor forced me to clean poop off the wall in the restroom even though I told her I wasn’t comfortable to and that she should call it in and told me no
haydensidun 6 points 1y ago
I had a similar experience. Someone splattered shit all over the bathroom walls and instead of calling Hazmat, the shift had us mop it up ourselves after we closed. The situation was dealt with and in his defense, it was the shift’s second or third week after being promoted, but disgusting nonetheless.
