Cold foam vs sweet cream cold foam (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by fawk_your_face_
I went to Starbucks the other day and ordered a cold brew with sweet cream cold foam and I was given a sweet cream cold brew with cold foam. I told the worker in the window this isn't what I ordered, it's too sweet for me to drink and they told me it's what I ordered and to order correctly next time. Did I maybe word it incorrectly? I just wanted a plain cold brew with sweet cream cold foam on top. How should I word this next time so the workers know what I want?

Yeah, unfortunately you're gonna have to be super specific in the future because we get so many customers who only have a vague idea of what they're ordering so we often have to interpret their orders like a game of telephone. So you'll probably want to specify you specifically DONT want a vanilla sweet cream cold brew with cold foam, rather you want straight cold brew topped with sweet cream cold foam in the future. Sorry for the hassle :/

I wish people weren't idiots so I didn't feel like one ordering correctly. Thank you much

They should've offered to just remake it.

Cold brew with reg cold foam is so easy and fast to make. Sorry they were kind of rude to you about it.

maybe try ordering it as a black cold brew with sweet cream cold foam! that might make it a little more clear for the person taking your order

I'll try that next time, thank you !

More specific is always better because the first thing you learn when working at a Sbux is that customers have no idea what they actually want (which I don’t necessarily blame them for).

IMO Sbux doesn’t present the various options well. They just plaster a handful of drinks on a menu, often excluding similar items. People are always saying “I don’t see X on the menu” and I’m always saying, “the menu is more like a small glimpse into what’s possible.”

I've always thought it was weird the whole menu wasn't listed. At the very least for common drinks like that. I understand there are so many variables that can totally change a drink tho.

Me too! I think they could easily lay out categories of ingredients/components so people can see what they really can do, but I’m willing to bet their goal is faster transactions, more sales, blah blah blah you know the rest

Yeah, no. The way we're trained - it doesn't matter WHY the drink is wrong. If it's wrong, you replace it. Whether we screwed up, the customer misordered, or even if the customer just didn't like the drink and wants something different. We should be making sure you are getting what it is you want.

Now I will say, although it hasn't happened to me yet, I know some people will and have taken advantage of this to score free drinks or just fuck with baristas. So trying to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe you got some jaded baristas who had been messed with one too many times.

Still, if you're being polite about it, they should at the very least have given even a half-hearted "sorry" and asked exactly what you wanted to try and make the drink right for you.

I didn't know that you could get a new drink just bc you don't like something. I wouldn't personally do that, but it's a cool rule to have in place.
apple_low 3 points 1y ago
Tbh no you didn't word it incorrectly at all. But one of the top comments is right about how at the register sometimes we just take a gander on what the customer means bc honestly customers usually have no clue what they're ordering and we might just interpret that the customer wants the more common of the possibilities.

Which is actually confusing bc almost no one orders plain cold foam (personally)?? And if I was confused on what foam you wanted exactly, I'd just ask if you wanted the vanilla sweet cream or the plain one.

But the way you worded, personally I would've gotten it right and I think most experienced baristas would too bc that's a common enough one.

Also vanilla sweet cream cold foam is the full official name for the foam, so you specifying it fully by name is kind of like?? I truly don't think this was an easy one to butcher on your end. It was just a misunderstanding/mistake on the baristas end honestly.

My friend ordered the drink a few months ago and I tried it and loved it. I just memorized what the sticker on the cup said, no idea what she actually orders it as tho.

Sounds like you were served a menu item called Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, and I agree, it is too sweet to drink. It has pumps of vanilla syrup in addition to the Vanilla Sweet Cream. I am a partner and I had someone do this to my Nitro Cold Brew with tiny splash of vanilla sweet cream and it was so disappointing. You deserve a refund, call 1-800-STARBUC (782-7282) I tried to find an email address for you and all I found was a labor intensive form where they want you to enter the store location but there is a way to contact through the app. Another thing, just call the store, ask for a shift supervisor and they will invite you back for a free one, they should leave a note for other managers to see

I meant to add in my post that they did remake my drink as I wanted it, just didn't appreciate the attitude
I don't think I'll call the number you gave, but I'll probably call the store and speak with someone about the way I was spoken to. Thank you !
FfierceLaw 2 points 1y ago
yes, that wasn't ok, we have a lot of young untrained baristas without a lot of life experience so not a lot of empathy. I have taken to specifying "no vanilla syrup" if I'm not making my beverage myself

I'd order it like, "Can I get a grande cold brew, no sweetener, with cold foam on top?" Something like that would make sense. Assuming you don't want sweetener in the drink itself 🤣

what is normal cold foam? i’ve been taught vanilla sweet cream cold foam is standard when customers order cold foam
TherudestLiz 2 points 1y ago
Cold foam is just nonfat milk. It’s not the same as VSCCF.
