I was hired on 9/23 and they just let me know I can't start until 10/18 - is this normal? (self.starbucksbaristas)

This is a second job for me, so I understand it may be difficult because I can't work during the day, only mornings and evenings, but I'm panicking because I really need the second income and I was expecting to start now rather than three weeks from now. I was so excited to get started at Starbucks and now I feel like they're already not treating me how I expected considering they're desperate for employees where I am :(

Schedules are typically made three weeks out. They’re probably trying to put you on that schedule. I was hired 9/30 of last year didn’t start until about 10/16

yes, managers at starbucks typically schedule 3 weeks out, so the schedule is likely already made until 10/18 and have no one to train you until then

I'm just really frustrated because when I did my onboarding last week I was told I may be able to start the week of 10/4 or 10/11 so I wasn't expecting it to be pushed back even more. I am considering just trying to get another job before I even start here in hopes I won't have to wait as long for a paycheck.

They’re starting you at the beginning of a new pay cycle. With the schedule already made for the next 2 weeks it makes sense that you start then

They probably can’t rewrite your trainees schedule, so they have to put you onto the newest schedule. They’re typically written 3 weeks out. On a plus, you get tips during your training, so at least there’s a little extra :/

in the meantime you can try signing up for door dash, if you’re lucky you can get started right away, and you can get paid daily. this is what i’m doing while i’m still in training and not getting paychecks yet
