anyone else getting multiple free food markouts a day? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lizchesley
okay so, from my understanding at least, every partner gets one free food mark out a day. however, i noticed one of my co workers asking for her food mark out around 3 times a day. (i wasn’t in the register, i just overheard her multiple times a day). i mean, i’d dont care at all. starbucks as a company is rich, they can afford things like that. i mean, im still getting paid the same regardless of if she gets multiple mark outs a day, so i don’t mind at all. but it did confuse me, so today i tried it. i got two food mark outs today. i mean im not sure if im just dumb and that’s always been a thing, but you should try it out. starbucks can afford it, and with how understaffed and overworked most of us are, we kind of deserve it.

but if someone who is in corporate or is upset at this and is going to report it to management, i’m joking and i pranked you. get pranked.

tldr: saw a girl get multiple food mark outs in a day so i tried it and it worked. (but i’m joking if you’re corporate)

While the current rule is one per day.. The system currently won't stop you from marking out more. However its an at your own risk kinda thing because if they wanted to they can look up how often you are doing it.

A guy came through our dt one day and said this was his second time getting his markout that day, and after he left we told our manager and she said that SMs can see when and how often you get your markout.

After that I didn't risk it.

I don’t think they have a way of tracking it easily if you get your mark out at stores other than your home store. The SM at the sister store will see your one mark out and think nothing of it. Your own SM will see your one at your home store on the same day. But they never put it together. This is why after 10/4 you can only get your food/bev mark out at your “home” store. Then other stores can only give you a discount, they have to refuse your mark out for food/bev. But not beans. The update said nothing about beans

1. Are you willing to risk your job for a second bacon gouda sandwich today? Yeah, didn't think so.

However,
2. The system is changing as of Monday. You will be able to mark out 7 food items per week, but only get them from your own store on days you clock in. They will not care whether you do 7 in one day or one per day plus an extra to save for your days off the day before. It may prove harder to track your own markouts accurately unless you stick with a plan for how you'll do it. I'd encourage you to do that; see #1.

do you know if you are able mark out one of your seven food items when you are not working? someone said it is automatically deducted from your paycheck if it is not within 30mins before shift - 30mins after shift. i’m pretty sure it’s illegal for an employer to do that without explicit consent for those deductions, so i am pretty sure that’s not true. is it just something the SM can review in a till audit and elect to address as a “problem” if needed??

Omg thank you for clarifying. There was some mix up today at my store regarding the new change. What about beverage mark outs?

The system doesn’t prevent multiple markouts, it’s sort of the honor system. Amount of mark outs are monitored and there are stories of partners getting fired for doing multiple mark outs so it’s definitely not something to be taking advantage of.
