transferring shift (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kittycatmeowmeow2000
im a shift and have been since may. im transferring to a new store soon and i’m really intimidated. theyre the best store in the district, have a handheld for peak, and the sm is realllyyy well known. im worried that i’m not going to be good enough or that the team won’t be as open to me as their shift. this is the store i go to on my off days and i’m known there as a regular. i might be overthinking it but does anyone have any tips?

I think if they see you as a hard worker, reliable and know you got their back, they’ll have yours as well (unless they’re jerks). It may be good that you’re a regular (though it might seem awkward to you), if they were nice to you then, they’ll at least be nice to you in the beginning (while they may feel a bit awkward as well also).

Don’t be afraid to ask questions , they don’t need a know-it-all but someone who will be a strong part of the team. Sit with you Store manager and ask what things would be different/ what you’ll need to know, etc if that helps, and the other shifts (who are good).

Like anything new it’ll take some adjusting, and they may do some things differently , and may even “correct” you, but don’t let that deter you, it’s bound to happen. And you may find you being something valuable to their store as well, it may be a much heavier work load if it’s the busiest, so just try and keep in mind that the volume may be double or triple that you’re used to, and you have to find time and ways to still get everything done. But besides that, it’s still a sbux store, so many things should be (hypothetically) seamless if they are a flagship location.

Good luck, have fun and congratulations!

I’m glad, and best of luck! In the beginning, a vibrating phone timer (or on smart watch) may help you remember when to break, or pull extra food, start cold brew, etc etc. But if you don’t usually use one it may add to extra stress so just do what works for you, maybe just a written checklist. You may also ask the staff to communicate with you (or start on their own ) to make sure they refill / stock their milks, and speak yo about getting to last 2 or 3 whips or pitcher of sweet cream if you’re in peak, if that’s not already something they do.
