shoulder/wrist pain (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BatWeary
we all have pain some way or another with this job, but i need advice since i don’t think this is something a chiropractor can help with.

here lately i’ve been getting a burning sensation from the palm of my hand/sometimes my fingers all the way into my shoulder blade. it’s mostly my right arm that’s affected but sometimes my left is too (just not my shoulder—only my wrist/forearm). it happens even when i’m not on bar, so idk what’s causing it ☹️

Carpal tunnel. Get a good wrist brace.

You should be doing stretches and wrist strengthening exercises every single day, you can find YouTube videos to show you how. Ask your doctor about getting wrist braces to sleep in at nigjt

Bring it up to your primary care provider so a time table is on paper, figure out which nerve is being pinched, and it's established that sbx is the cause. Doc will likely call it too early to consider drastic measures and advise you to take anti inflammatory meds therapeutically for a few weeks (so a regular ibuprofen or similar to keep it in the blood stream even if you're feeling good that day) stretch and ice after work. A brace can help but don't over use it or your joint grows dependent and actually gets weaker. In the beginning, that all could allow healing and reverse damage. If you muscle through too long, damage will continue and surgery is the eventual result of carpal tunnel and or tennis elbow. A lot of career grocery clerks I used to work with had the surgery and needed workman's compensation to get through the healing process.
