How many people on bar during peak?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by babyIoves
How many people do y'all usually have on bar during peak? I work at a drive thru that averages around 9-11k and we have 3 people at MOST but the "third bar" is really customer support person supporting us. At my old café (3-5k daily) we would sometimes even have 4 people on bar during peak.
echowolf949 points1y ago
You got 4 people for a 5k store! I usually got bar 1 and bar 2.
drowninginristretto21 points1y ago
OMG we only have literally 2 for our $ 11,000/ day store
kpianist6 points1y ago
Does 5k mean 5k orders??
echowolf921 points1y ago
No, it’s 5k dollars, 5k orders would be insane!
kpianist2 points1y ago
Ohh gotcha. Is that per week?
echowolf921 points1y ago
It’s per day. Usually cafes are around 2-5k and drive thrus are around 8-11k per day.
medusas-garden33 points1y ago
2 on hot bar, 1 on cold bar. We have a cold bar printer too so that makes it easy for the bar partners to stay planted. DTO shakes refreshers and teas and we all help out cold bar if we run out of stickers on hot bar. We just got the hand held ordering tablet so during peak when we have someone outside we still have someone at “DTO” sequencing drinks but they’re also able to help out cold bar a lot more and get iced coffee and cold brew too. Corporate thinks that taking orders outside helps drive times but it’s actually the extra labor we’ve gained from that lol.
babyIoves [OP]11 points1y ago
we have a cold bar printer as well but since we never have anyone planted on third bar, it's never used :( we also use the hand held tablet but we don't have someone at DTO 😭 that would make things much easier
medusas-garden2 points1y ago
Yeah you’re definitely not being staffed well enough for peak. My store does the same amount of business as yours does and we always are staffed well enough for peak where we have 2 people on bar, 1 person on cold bar, DTO, DTR, ovens, CS, on weekends sometimes an R1, and now we have the hand held. If we have a call off or something, CS is usually the first to go so we still have a lot of people on bar. And we are still just kinda barely making it and can use for people (mainly after peak to run breaks).
whatjever8 points1y ago
Our store is 24/7 has a drive-thru espresso, mobile/delivery espresso, and one cold bar (one person on fraps & one on refreshers). We also have a self-made iced coffee bar for another person. I don’t know what exact numbers are but today we hit $12k from 6am - 12pm today and all of my coworkers came out of our morning shifts wanting to cry. We used handheld every day so that allows the extra person on staging to go and prep cold bar but even then, mobile orders can often lead to like our bars being backed up by like 15 drinks consistently.
babyIoves [OP]4 points1y ago
12k in that time frame?? bye i'd quit
whatjever4 points1y ago
I asked my shift today and she clarified we are a $120k store. I love getting paid under $12 though!
voxinx8 points1y ago
We have 2 for each espresso bar and 1 cold bar. Same average $ here.
babyIoves [OP]4 points1y ago
omg what, so 5 people in total?
voxinx9 points1y ago
No I’m just an idiot 😭 I meant 1 person for each espresso bar, so 2 total + the cold bar. 3 total.
kobo156 points1y ago
I was like….. I need to know how you assign two people to one espresso bar because I think I would accidentally smack the other person assigned to my bar lol
dogsofwintergaming2 points1y ago
Used to do this about 7 years ago. One person would prep pitchers with milk and cups with syrups then rinse used pitchers while the other person just steamed and poured.
It was as awful as it sounds.
brexitfanpage7 points1y ago
1😵💫 And it’s usually me😀
-beam-me-up-3 points1y ago
This 🙌
Jolly-Sir-9106 points1y ago
We generally have 4 people on bar (2 hot 2 cold) and we do about 65k a week. Its kind of hell.
babyIoves [OP]3 points1y ago
Pls imagine how we feel, we average the same & we basically only have 2 people on bar
AndrewSaidThis2 points1y ago
3 or 4. Three is usually sufficient. But there are hella busy days, especially when we get loaded with deliveries and mobile, that we need 4 to keep up.
Eboy778887977882 points1y ago
Bar 1 Drive Bar, Bar 2 Mobile bar, Cold Bar 1 and 2, support bar. Only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday’s.
NotyourangeLbabe2 points1y ago
Wow that sounds seriously amazing. What’s you average window time?
Eboy778887977881 points1y ago
45 to 50’s, depends on who is on window and drive thru bar
babyIoves [OP]2 points1y ago
this sounds divine, how much does your store average?
Eboy778887977883 points1y ago
7k to 9k per day, we are right by a lot of school and by a shopping center, that has a grocery store, small shops and restaurants
yeeterskeeteryall1 points1y ago
Anderson? 👀
greenbeanfridge1 points1y ago
2 and a support for morning peak, Closing we have 1 on bar for all of the drinks
happyzeb1 points1y ago
when i was a partner, last year/early this year at a 10k store, we were so understaffed it was me on solo bar, a solo drive, one warming, and one cs/front. i rlly don't know how we did it every day
1badbiddie1 points1y ago
Morning crew has two people: one on cafe bar, another on drive thru bar. Night crew however usually has only one person on bar. If there’s an extra person on shift, they’ll be on customer support to help during afternoon/night peaks.
DoppelGanger901 points1y ago
1 like always because we’re understaffed.
Pippy5751 points1y ago
We usually just have 2, a drive bar and a cafe/mobile bar. If cold drinks are incredibly insane we may get either DTO or CS to help support on cold drinks but those days are few and far between since we don’t usually have the staffing to have a CS person and DTO is helping support warming/front and the DTW person is picking up the DTO spot.
Paragoon_1 points1y ago
8-10k store 2 hot bars and SOMETIMES a cold bev
Improvmomolyfe1 points1y ago
My first store averages 10k daily, they currently have a 6-7 person play for peak. This where everyone has a position and stays at their station
Elliotisnotokay1 points1y ago
At my (last store) drive thru we had 3 bar people on peak and someone else on cs
JCaligirl4201 points1y ago
It depends really. Sometimes 3-4 but usually 2, with support flexing
plktm1 points1y ago
You guys get more than 1 bar? Oh
smoolbeean1 points1y ago
2 bar one at drive and on on upfront and mobile and no customer support cause my manager loves to see us struggle
ihateyousoymatcha1 points1y ago
Three if everyone shows up, but our "cold bar" is usually running Curbside and grabbing milk and ice
With a 7 play we have: DTR, DTO, Warming, Front, Drive Bar, Cafe Bar, Cold Bar
With an 8 play we get a CS
andyboy2321 points1y ago
We've been so understaffed lately we're lucky if bar 2 isn't also front register 😅
briannuzzi1 points1y ago
usually 3, one person doing cold, one doing drive and one doing cafe! the rest of the time we’re only 2 bc our bar area is kinda small and even having 3 people doing bar at once just gets way too crowded and we’re almost better off with 2.
blueeyedwildflower911 points1y ago
2 for a weekday. 3 for a weekend. Our bar area is so small that anymore would be chaos
LatterRooster1 points1y ago
4-5-6 6 is flex
the1noir1 points1y ago
Three, we are a 3k-5k DT stor
skeletaldecay1 points1y ago
I don't work peak but I feel like my store is set up stupid so it couldn't be more than 2-3, maybe maybe 4. I'm also green so I'll probably get some terminology wrong. We have two printers: drive thru, and cafe/mobile/delivery which both have their own hot bar stations. There's two cold bars (refreshers/cold brew/tea, and frapps). At night we share cold bars so I feel like there is always traffic jams. Especially with frapps, we just kind of have to wait until the other person is finished. Refreshers you can kind of work around the other person, except that for some reason we have two shaker lids for the entire store.
clumsycalico1 points1y ago
I don’t know what our actual numbers are, but I think we’re an average midsized store. Definitely not as big and busy as some I’ve been to but moreso than lots of others. We have one hot bar for drive through and one hot bar for lobby/mobiles, and then one cold bar for both. We have a third espresso bar in the building but rarely use it, maybe for a few weeks in the dead of winter when it’s mostly hot drinks.
VrginMobile1 points1y ago
1? Maybe 2 if the shift isn't in the back. We are supposed to be planted so we definitely need 2 on reg not like bar could use help by having 1 more there and only 1 on reg
dogsofwintergaming1 points1y ago
Lol both of these situations are off. 4 people on bar for a 5k a day store is overkill, 2 people on bar for an 11k store is understaffed.
5k a day could do 1 bar and a support who slides to bar plus DTO helping with CB/IC drinks easily.
Edit: 2 would also be fine, if they don't gut needed labor later just for peak to have an extra person.
11k a day needs at least 3 for peak to prevent bottlenecks. Unless it's a store with a wonky layout that makes 3 overcrowded.
babyIoves [OP]2 points1y ago
the reason we had so many people is because we basically made 3/4 of our sales during peak. it would get CRAZY whereas the store im at now, the sales are much more spread out & it doesn't feel as bad
potatopoisoning1 points1y ago
This. My last DT store the partners on DTO/DTR would help with cold bar drinks (mostly prepping and topping fraps) because the cold bar was literally right behind them and a third person planted there during anytime that wasn’t absolutely necessary (peak mainly) was too crowded.
LemonDaze4201 points1y ago
Usually two B1 and B2 then a Cold Bar/CS
chstarr71 points1y ago
I also work in a DT Store, we do about 10-11k a day. We usually have 4 on bar during peak, 1 for cafe, mobile, and DT bar, then one who is specifically on cold bar.
throwaway28252721 points1y ago
either one or two :(
wildaloofrebel551 points1y ago
We have two people on bar! We desperately need a cold bar person during peak but we don’t have enough sales to “earn” one. It’s madness at my store.
tacticalcop1 points1y ago

dkr18291 points1y ago
Well after tonight shift, I know it’s only me on both hot and cold bar and it’s really crazy :) I swear because I learned fast (2 weeks after I started, I can be on hot bar - both 1 and 2, by myself and I’ll reach my 2yrs soon by the coming January), those morning shift always leave me by myself most of the time. That’s what I hate the most about morning at my store. They leave shitty floor for our night shift and they expect us to leave a clean and fully stocked for them the next morning, while they have 10+ ppl on floor and we only have 3-4 (max is 5, as what I experienced) at night :)
crunchycookie281 points1y ago
We usually have 4 people on bar, one on each. But what you average daily is what we usually average on peak itself
kIose1 points1y ago
3 people is not enough on bar for a store than averages 10k a day that's crazy. How many partners are on the floor during peak?
babyIoves [OP]2 points1y ago
8 usually: 1 dto, 1 dtr, 1 register, 1 warming, 2 bar, and 2 shifts doing customer support
kIose1 points1y ago
Interesting. Do you know how much yall make after 10 or 11 am assuming you're not a 24 hour store. What's the window time during peak as well?
[deleted]2 points1y ago
[deleted]
kIose1 points1y ago
Oh geeze. And if yall are making 10k a day you're definitely pulling more than $160 a half our during peak. Maybe you've just never seen those numbers. But definitely sounds like you need another bar partner for peak.
Short-Suit-33741 points1y ago
2 on espresso and one cold bar barista for mine.
NotyourangeLbabe1 points1y ago
During peak we have one person on drive bar, one person on front bar doing cafe and mobiles, and one person on cold bar
[deleted]1 points1y ago

kqs131 points1y ago
We usually just have 2 (drive thru and walkup/mobile) but in the fall and winter since it's a lot busier we sometimes have a third for cold bar. We usually do anywhere between 50 and 70 half hours during peak, just for reference. And our store is drive thru only, but we also have a walk up window and patio
TherudestLiz1 points1y ago
We have DT bar, mobile bar, and usually cafe bar does cold bar if they are not making cafe drinks. Sometimes the customer support role will help bar if mobile gets slammed. If we are staffed enough. And depending on who is doing support.
deepfriedmeme4201 points1y ago
i work at a drive through and we usually only have 3 people on bar but that’s usually only on the weekends and only for peak and whenever it’s busy again in the afternoon if we’re lucky
kittycatmeowmeow20001 points1y ago
my store is dt too and we have three (drive thru, mobile, and cold bar). the cs person is the shift running around
pandiechu1 points1y ago
before most of the old staff got fired, 2 on hot bar and 1 on cold. now its just someone on DT and someone on Cafe, and we make our own cold drinks. sometimes DTR or DTO will make refreshers and teas if needed. we stay that way all day bc there's only 7 of us and we're on limited hours.
Mommy2SNP1 points1y ago
Cafe store we do roughly 7-9k a weekday and have 4-5 on bar for peak( 90-110 half hours). Two hot bar, 1 shaker, 1 frapps, 1 cold brew (cold brew also hands out all drinks) Non peak 2-3 and the half hours are 40-50
