So about a month ago, my store was closed (we were a kiosk in a mall), so I ended up transferring to a more busier store. For quite some time, I wanted to be a trainer because I was already basically training people, and a temp store manager recommended me as one. The store manager at my old store did everything in his power to make sure I didn’t become one, but the place I transferred to was desperate for trainers, so I stepped up.
After a couple weeks I finally get the modules and then became a certified trainer. I got great feedback from the trainees I was training, and even great feedback from baristas watching and observing my way of training. So I want it to be said, that I was the ONLY barista barista trainer we had. My SM abused my time, and me as a trainer and threw the responsibility of checking in with ALL the trainees (including ones that I didn’t train) and seeing where they were with their progress. I was also responsible for training 6 new trainees, and was sometimes training 2 people in one day. I was also scheduled for training AND coverage, and was not able to explain things to some of the trainees like I would have liked to.
Jump to this week, my newest trainee has been working the exact, if not close to the same schedule as me (which he was not okay with and told the manager this), so we’ve been short staffed all week making it even more of a challenge to train. Today, we had 4 people on the floor, and I was still expected to train. So I made the decision to step down, which I really REALLY did not wanna do since I absolutely love training. My manager had no issues with this, so I know she’s gonna go back to using shifts as trainers (which is what she should have been doing as well as having me train). I’m really genuinely upset to the point I kinda don’t wanna work for Starbucks.
TL;DR
I was a trainer at my store until today because my SM is making being a trainer more difficult then it’s supposed to be.
