Starting Monday! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sh3nan1gans_
So I start training for Starbucks on Monday. I’m super nervous! I worked at Dunkin’ Donuts before, but I know drinks can/and are far more complex at Starbucks than at DD! Are learning the drinks hard? Like memorizing them. Any tips for a newbie?

I’m just super nervous. Like I stated I worked at Dunkin so I’m sure some things may be similar. I’m just afraid of fucking up. Or not getting it

it took me a while to learn how many shots go in what cup . things take time . im pretty sure you went into dunkin not knowing how to do anything right ? but now you’re good ! that’s how it’s gonna be at starbies :)
you can message me any questions you might have if you’ll like

This has been an invaluable resource for me:
https://www.reddit.com/r/starbucks/comments/p1ik3o/the_last_infographics_i_will_ever_post_leaving/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Be sure to scroll down to the OP's link to their Google Drive, though. The infographic there was updated to correct a few errors. Don't use the one uploaded to Reddit. But it's a great way to study the drink recipes at home.

The store will also have iPads with an app called "Store Resources" that has all the drink recipes in it. You can study those on your breaks or before/after your shift. If your SM/SSV(s) are okay with it, maybe even use it at the bar for practice drinks.

Honestly it’s a practice thing. The more you bar the more you’ll be in the mindset/find a groove and it’ll become second nature. I say this to just about everyone who’s new. Once you know how to make a basic vanilla latte you know how to make half the menu it’s just a matter of substitutions. The difference between a vanilla latte and mocha? Mocha instead of vanilla and add whip. Same pumps same number of shots unless otherwise specified. Same goes for iced drinks. For syrup pumps think of going up stairs. You add one pump for the next size. Grande to venti iced is like going up one of those steep stairs that you hate because you don’t know how far down to go. There are exceptions like in americanos you add a shot and macchiatos you go down one pump.

So it’s not far from the same As DD. They did the same with the pumps and sizes. I just know sometimes Starbucks can get those customers who order those bizarre/tiktok drinks and want some weird shit. I’ve also been told that some people want their drinks a certain temp too

When you learn espresso bar your trainer should tell you about manually steaming milk. Just don’t pull the handle down all the way and the machine (we have mastrena 1) and it will say manual. Pull it down all the way and you’re on auto. Watch the milk though on manual because if you over steam it milk will overflow from the pitcher and it hurts not fun to clean up. As for tiktok drinks go unfortunately they’ll become second nature as well. It’s just putting different components on a different drink which can be a pain in the ass.
