Putting a cold drink in a hot cup! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Plus-Communication88
Pretty self explanatory, but I’m curious. I wanted to buy one of the hot tumblers but we all know the cups at Starbucks are a bit overpriced, so I don’t really see the point in splurging on one if I can’t put cold drinks in it too. I know it wouldn’t work vice versa because a hot drink would melt a cold cup or the customer could get burned, but do you think stores would allow you to order a cold drink in one? Thanks! Sorry this was a total tongue twister lol

As long as the size you’re ordering can fit in your cup, you’ll be fine. But keep in mind, cold drinks are “bigger” than hot drinks to account for ice volume. A grande cold drink would need a venti hot cup to fit in. And while cold drinks can go in hot mugs, I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting a lot of hot drinks in cold mugs.

I have lots of hot cups and I don’t order hot drinks ever, so all I use them for is cold drinks. The sizing might be a little off since iced cups are made larger to accommodate the drink itself and the ice, but I’ve never had a problem making it work and I’ve never had a barista tell me that my drink wouldn’t fit in whatever cup I was using. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Since the pandemic, I haven’t been taking my cup into the cafes to be used, obviously, so usually I just take the cup my drink comes in, pour what I can into my reusable cup, and then drink whatever is left over. It works just fine for me!
