What do you guys think about regulars that order refills? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I have been going to a Starbucks every other day after university/work and ordering either a cold brew or a drip coffee. I use the app to order and stay for 2-5 hours studying/browsing Reddit, I also get 1-2 refills. I did this because I don't have good internet at home and there is no coffee on university campus.

Am I being rude by staying too long or ordering refills? I noticed one barista being annoyed with me, even denied me a refill because I went to the restroom... I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, and I don't want to ruin a person's day at work. what is the correct etiquette?

I mean...we're trained that Starbucks should be a "third place" for our customers. And there are people who go there for the Wi-Fi and/or as a study/meeting/chilling place or whatever and never order anything.

Personally, as long as you weren't being disruptive, annoying or rude, or coming every day without ever ordering anything, I wouldn't care. In fact, I would cherish the fact that you - a non-disruptive and polite individual - taking up a table means the possibility of 1 or more less jerks who could be there, instead.

Not sure what that one barista's problem is. Maybe they just had an off day? Although I don't feel like you have to, maybe every now and then add in a simple food item to your order like a loaf or cookie or something? And even a buck or two cash tip. Again, I don't feel you should have to. But if you feel like you want to give a little show of goodwill or appreciation, that would be a nice gesture.

Thanks ! Yea that's a good point I'll start ordering a food item and tipping. I just sit there and mind my business, as far as I know, I don't disturb anyone.
You're probably right she was likely having a bad day, I'm on first name basis with her and she is a very nice person in general. Just wanted to check with reddit cause I don't want to impose on peoples work, and if I were, I'll stop going.

These are my favorite customers because we actually get a chance to get to know them. I used to work in a store with no drive thru, and the thing I miss most is learning about our regulars. You’re doing nothing wrong at all!

This is not rude at all, it’s a perk that we offer! Take advantage of it! I’m not sure why the barista was like that to you, and I’m sorry you experienced that! But lots of people come in to study or chat, refills are never a bother! Especially since they’re only available for drinks that are easy to make. If you were trying to refill a frap, then I *might* be able to see her annoyed, but knowing that wasn’t the case I’m just sorry ): It’s not annoying at all

I literally don’t care - there are regulars who order refills at my store and it matters not to me. One woman orders iced tea refills and we’re all happy to get them for her

you aren’t in the wrong here as long as you’re polite and aren’t causing a ruckus in the cafe we don’t really notice you and appreciate you for not making a mess of our store

The refill policy is intended for cafe customers just like you so enjoy! Once you leave the store your visit has ended so any subsequent refills are considered a new purchase. A restroom break is absolutely not considered leaving the store so I’m sorry that you were treated that way.
