What do you have to do to become a cafe master? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Fatkidsid09
One of the baristas I work with claim that she is now a cafe master and wears a black apron just because she did "training" to become it. I've looked online and it said you had to be approved by the store manager and the district manager but she wasn't approved by any of those people..? So I'm just confused

Coffee Master was formally discontinued a couple years ago, and the black aprons are no longer orderable. When I went through certification a few years ago I had to verify the work I was doing with my SM, and be recertified yearly. If they were one they were probably last certified in 2019 or so.

Some SMs allegedly gave out black aprons for completing all 3 levels of Coffee Academy, but that's up to SM discretion.

When I worked there it was a whole course

And the dm did have to finalize it

I have been with Starbucks for 18 years, always “just” a barista. I asked to take the black apron training when the option first came up, but found out you had to be a shift to qualify. Then, when it was opened up to baristas, I signed up on s list for the training, almost all of us did. The training was promised but never happened for any of us. Then I heard the black apron training was no longer available. Bad ass green apron and proud.

It's a course through ASU, my manager said he could get me set up on it when I asked

It’s a whole course that has to be finalized by the DM I believe. I thought they got rid of it though. Being a coffee master literally means nothing btw

They did get rid of it.
