left starbucks in February. my manager overheard me talking about a job interview and asked me to come back (self.starbucksbaristas)

So to make a long story short, I (M22) went on a mental health leave in February and never returned to Starbucks. When the time came around to go back, I knew that it ultimately wasn’t worth it so I made a promise to myself to never go back there and never work in a customer service job like that again, because after doing it for the last few years it just isn’t healthy for me and I knew going back go Starbucks would do more harm than good for my mental health, so I’ve been doing DoorDash ever since. The manager that hired me had left a month prior and our new manager was very nice and understanding about it, and I still stop in my store from time to time to see the (very few) people that I used to work with.

Well today I went in to tell two of my favorite shifts about a job interview I have tomorrow for a doggy day care place, and of course they were really excited for me and told me to keep them updated. My manager overheard all of this but didn’t say much as she was heading outside to talk to one of the shifts.

No more than two hours after I left the store, she texts me and says “hey so do you wanna come back to Starbucks? 😛”

I was very polite in my response, I just told her thank you but I’m pretty confident I’m gonna get this job and if I do I’m literally gonna be playing with dogs all day which I would MUCH rather do than make coffee for Karen’s lol (I didn’t tell her that but that’s what was going through my mind.)

I texted one of my old coworkers about it and he said that there’s currently about four people trying to leave that store so that explains it, but I just thought it was hilarious that she overheard me talking about a job interview and no less than two hours later texts me and asks me if I wanna come back 😂

No hard feelings about it, I was very thankful she asked because she told me when I left that I was always welcome to come back and that I’d always be apart of that store’s family, but I’m so excited for this new job and I really hope I get it!!!! But I definitely don’t miss working at Starbucks lol. Every time I go in there all I can think about is how happy I am that I never went back

if you see this, this is your friendly reminder to take care of your mental health and don’t let this job get you to a place where you’re not stable because it’s not worth it!!!! there were other factors that made my mental health worse but the pressure of starbucks did not help at all and it was more harmful than beneficial for me to work there. so please, take care of yourselves and if you’ve been thinking about leaving for mental health reasons, I strongly suggest you look into it because leaving was just about the best thing I could’ve done for myself and I have no regrets!!

But I still enjoy being in this subreddit if that’s alright! I like the memes you guys post and I love hearing your stories and giving advice/insight to other baristas :-)

For a second when I read the title I thought it said my manager told me to never come back

hahahahaha luckily that wasn’t the case! she’s always been very insistent that I can come back anytime I want to, but truthfully I don’t think I have it in me lol. Not for the pay rate I was making at least 😂

I don’t blame you. There’s going to become a point when I can’t handle it anymore and boy that ought to be interesting.
