Anxiety ridden (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by RaddieB
All of the baristas on here are badass. I seriously don't know how you all do it. I've worked for maybe 2 weeks full time and I think I'm about to quit. I can't feel my feet or legs, and when I'm not at work all I think about is work. I don't even have diagnosed anxiety but I think I'm getting it at this job. It is insanely busy 24/7 not to mention customers seeing you as subhuman. I literally feel broken and I feel bad for wanting to quit but I can't stomach the thought of staying. I know its courtesy to do 2 weeks notice, and the only reason I want to is so my coworkers aren't slammed and if in the very distant future I wanted to come back for their asu program, at a much less busy store I could.

Should I just quit without a two week notice?

I think the main thing about two weeks notice is that it's a courtesy for your manager especially if you want to use them as a reference in the future. Might depend on your state, though not sure.
Have you considered reducing your hours or changing the time slot you work? I support people quitting lol, just thought I'd ask.

It's not required legally. I think I'm gonna do it, I'm just so nervous.

Just a luker here. But no job should cause you so much anxiety. Perhaps see if you can transfer to another store? If not I’d definitely start looking around for a new job before you quit (unless you’re ok financially). No job is worth your mental health

My favorite job was a hostess at a 5star restaurant. My second fav was a teller at Wells Fargo (didn’t need much experience with that one)

I rage quit from my store in 2018. I wasn’t being given my breaks and my SS basically said too bad. I called our DM. He said that there wouldn’t be retaliation. I was written up *the next day*. I left at the end of my shift on a Friday and messaged my SM Sunday night (during a Dodgers World Series game, I was being petty and my SM was a big fan) that I wouldn’t be in to open Monday morning.

Sometimes you have to stick up for yourself. At the time, I had the means to just quit. I recently moved out of the district and was rehired for SCAP funds. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be eligible because I didn’t give notice but I guess because I told someone, it didn’t matter.

Am I proud of it? Ehh. At the time it felt good. I have been humbled by reapplying. It’s not an easy job and partners are not given enough credit for what they deal with every day.

In my experience, you get used to the job. Mentally and physically. You stop thinking about it all the time. I know exactly what you're talking about, I did the same thing as a green bean. That's your brain trying to retain the information it's learning and figure out how your new job works.

Thank you so much, I definitely needed to hear this. I appreciate this more than you know

To be blunt, that feeling never really goes away. I worked for sbux for about 6 months and I really thought it would eventually get better but it never did. Luckily I quit when I had the chance and I did it over text because I wasn’t planning on using them as a reference. Just do it over text. Who cares you only live once, don’t stay at a job that’ll ruin your mental health.

I'm a relatively new green bean (2 months in) and I was the exact same way. I panicked over my first 8 hour shift, and everything was super busy and it was just nerve racking. It's a really steep learning curve, but it gets better In my opinion. I have anxiety ( am being treated for it too) so I understand where you're coming from. I'm also at a super busy store, but you'll start to get a feel for the job, you just have to push through. After so much repetition it'll be second nature, and you won't even flinch. Give it another week or two.

Thank you so much, I just want it to get better, I'm gonna stick it out and hope for the best

I had quit mid-shift. I was fed up with coworkers bullying me and customers treating me as less. I’m now unemployed but I had never felt freer and happier since I started working for this hellhole.

Hi! SSV here! The way my store works (I know it’s one of the better ones) is to just talk to your store manager about what is going on. My manager is very understanding and is happy to help with anxiety since she deals with it as well. Starbucks is also awful at throwing information at you and hoping you catch all of it. Your store manager might have some tools that can help you with remembering things. (I know it took me a good 6 months to feel comfortable with all my barista tasks.) But give it some time and don’t ever be scared to ask questions because at the end of the day, your team is working to get the job done. Keep up the hard work and soon it will just come to you.

This seriously made me feel so much better. I don't want to give up, but I just definitely want to get better and I'm trying so hard and worried 24/7 that I'm just not doing a good enough job, but fr I think I'm gonna stick it out cause this is what I needed to hear.

I’m glad! It’s SO MUCH information. I still ask my barista small things just because there is no way someone could remember everything! You got this!
