My store is going to be closed for the next few days for cleaning ✨ (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mulderufo13
Because our corporate manager came in yesterday and wants us to deep clean everything even more than we get to on cleanplay, so the bright side is no customers, downside is we clean everything for corporate’s appeasement. I don’t mind cleaning, I just think it’s a bit overkill to be closed for 3 days to do so. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also we are the only corporate store in my town, with a few others being in target or in a grocery store. So rip them the next few days because we are a high traffic store.

Y’all must’ve been really dirty. Never heard a store close cause they weren’t clean enough. Sounds like you failed a food food inspection type thing. Welp, enjoy the three days off from working with customers I guess lol
esaeklsg 65 points 1y ago
Yeah this sounds about right. I’ve seen a store get swarmed with managers from other locations for a day to get things cleaned / caught back up, but even that was during open hours. Starbucks hates closing a store for any reason, I can’t imagine what they would close for three days for.
idkmore 27 points 1y ago
They probably found mice or roaches. Happened to my store and we had to shut down and literally clean everything. I honestly would have preferred my normal shift
smallmeade 14 points 1y ago
My store had mice AND roaches apparently, and we never closed.
is_it_soy 28 points 1y ago
My store had RATS 🐀 🐀
Luckily, they were fired.
BaristaWoosa 6 points 1y ago
SAME my store has “discreet” mice traps around the store 🙄
mulderufo13 [OP] 12 points 1y ago
We don’t have mice or roaches lol. It’s just mostly deep cleaning and recently had a bit of a remodel so things are scattered about. We have no manager at this moment and we have a sub standing in
idkmore 20 points 1y ago
Three days seems quite a long time to close, I can’t see starbucks actually wanting to do that considering who they are. My managers kept it quiet about why we shut down
mulderufo13 [OP] 8 points 1y ago
I asked my shift and he said it’s to give the store a refresh considering how stressful it’s been lately. And I personally think it’s also overkill for 3 days. Glad I’m not alone in that
mulderufo13 [OP] 13 points 1y ago
We actually aren’t that dirty, we haven’t failed any food inspections either. It’s just we have lack of staff and things keep getting pushed back, we also have usually at night two or three people closing which is stressful trying to get prep, closing duties done. We do cleanplay every week. I literally deck scrubbed the whole store two weeks ago for my whole shift. This wasn’t our choice it was our corporate manager’s choice. Because we have tile missing from the floor due to the fact our tile guy hasn’t come back and finished it. We are also reorganizing and fixing things that have been a mess for months
Material-Leg5325 9 points 1y ago
any chance someone in your store is attempting to unionize? corporate interference and store closure has been a common tactic.
mulderufo13 [OP] 6 points 1y ago
No we aren’t. A few of us talked about the buffalo situation one night, unless they have hidden mics.
cringeqween13 34 points 1y ago
Its almost as if you can't do things properly when understaffed *gasp* who would've thunk it
mulderufo13 [OP] 9 points 1y ago
Yes, that’s what I have been thinking. We have nothing but teenagers at this point working night shift which is a nightmare itself because they can only work so much
amalia13lightning 16 points 1y ago
damn how dirty was yall?
mulderufo13 [OP] 7 points 1y ago
It’s reorganization, cleaning and a well deserved break from customers harassing us. We are a high traffic store and the only official store in town besides the grocery store one and target
sailorgrumpycat 14 points 1y ago
God i wish my store could do something like this. Not because we need it, but because we could get the store in such good condition, could still be receiving orders (albeit reduced) so would be super stocked with food/supplies, and could get a damn break. Unfortunately there's no way we could get 3 days, because my store is the closest building outside the gates of a high school, and if we weren't open on a school day there might be riots.

can't hear you over the sound of the blender and shaker. hope whatever it is works out tho! (from a store across from a high school/junior high)
roseshrub 10 points 1y ago
Honestly, three days without dealing with customer entitlement, terrible attitudes and potential threats of violence over cheaply made coffee sounds like heaven to me.
Just embrace it.

I want this in my store too. It's been understaffed and skipping proper clean plays all summer. We're not so understaffed anymore but heavy on the green beans, so I'd consider a clean gig a bonding experience.
mulderufo13 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
It’s going to be interesting. Morning crew I’m sure this morning feels lost having to tell customers we aren’t open and having to clean instead of drink making. I’m just glad I won’t have to make any Frappuccinos the next few days
Random-Brunette 2 points 1y ago
Ugh, frapps... Feel ya.
Meduka__ 6 points 1y ago
This happened to my store too, it was actually a really fun time. A great team bonding experience as well! We just didn't have the staff for clean plays sadly. After we finished cleaning we had a little dinner together at one of the big tables, it was quite wholesome. GL to you all!

I mean a lot of people are happy about it. And I myself am having anxiety because to me nothing ever is clean enough for me so this should be fun. I work today and I’m off for the next two days
Devon_McK 3 points 1y ago
Our regional manager is coming today, so that’s honestly probably gonna happen to us too 🥲
Very-_-Disappointing 2 points 1y ago
Wow this sounds like an actual dream. I’d be satisfied with my wage if all I did was clean all day with no customers. Hope you enjoy your break from the monsters!
looker009 2 points 1y ago
Wow how dirty is your store? We haven't had a clean play in over a year and yet we never had issue with keeping store relatively clean
mulderufo13 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
We are super understaffed and wow u haven’t done a cleanplay all summer? We still manage to do ours every week with only 3-4 people
looker009 3 points 1y ago
We haven't had clean play in over a year at this point. We are understaffed as well but not that bad that we can't clean properly. But 3 days of cleaning should make your store look spotless
mulderufo13 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I’m myself a very clean person in general but there’s a couple of partners that do not clean after themselves whatsoever to the point I’m always going behind them and cleaning. It’s very stressful and I’ve talked to my shifts about it. Also we are reorganizing the store too. Because we have lack of storage and we recently got one of counters extended for the ovens so the cabinet that held a lot of items is gone and scattered about
looker009 1 points 1y ago
It's not acceptable for any partner not to pull their weight and clean. No way would I be going behind their back to clean, I would be calling them out. Sounds like time to bring it up with your sm
nonogender 1 points 1y ago
my dm did this last weekend and it sucked because my manager decided we were still gonna be open and every customer from the other stores in the district came to us 😔

Of course it only matters if a corporate mogul sees it, otherwise it doesn’t matter if you have rats crawling up the walls you’d better be making drinks and not wasting time cleaning. But then if corporate sees it it’s suddenly “why weren’t you cleaning this?!?”

Wait for the fun when you open up your ice machine. I pet there gonna be pink mold everywhere.
