You made her drive back around…? Sheeeeeesh.
briannuzzi 16 points 1y ago
yeah if it wasn’t busy I would have just let her order at the window but explain to her for next time but I definitely know window orders are annoying

It might be annoying but I would have just taken the order there instead of making her drive all the way around again, particularly after she already waited in line and now has to wait in line again. Better just politely remind her next time not to do it again.

Can we say no when someone orders at the window? I notice what ends up happening is people will get there refresher and be like “wait can we change it for a different one” it’s always the refresher too. It’s like they get kiwi and want the strawberry one. I understand but it’s like those are two different flavors you should know which one you want….

I think that might be something that’s up to your managers to decide, I’m not really sure! at my store, we got permission from our DM to have people go park when they add things at the window when it’s especially busy and someone will bring it to them, but I feel like others wouldn’t like that. and ugh yeah that sounds especially annoying! but how do they not know what refresher they’re ordering?? do they just decide last minute they want a different one? cuz in that case I would charge them for another drink if they wanted to “change it” i’d go insane hahaha

yes it’s happened more then a few times they’ll be nice and it’s usually a car with a kid in the back seat “is it too late to change it - they want this instead” and I don’t like to go back and forth with customers I usually just ask my team and I’ll be like alright, that’s fine. I hate doing that to my team tho. I know it messed up the flow !!!

Wait a minute.. at all the Starbucks drive thrus I’ve been to there’s a sticker by the speaker that says to pull to the window if you need help ordering. Is that only in certain ones?!
emtionallyconfused14 1 points 1y ago
Mine has that sticker, yet we do not accept window orders unless there is no one in the drive through, which is never. I’ve always been confused by this but doesn’t seem like my place to bring it up.

No matter how kindly you asked her to go around again, you turned a potential positive customer service into a negative for her. If she is an”old lady”, as you say, perhaps she doesn’t frequent drive-thrus.

You could have explained that they would normally order at the speaker box, but you’d be happy to take her order here this time.

What, baristas hate window orders? Try “Hey (barista), I have this sweet lady at the window that didn’t know to order at the speaker.” I’m sure her order wasn’t too complicated, she probably hasn’t even heard of Tik-Tok.

My thoughts too (in regards to turning a potentially positive experience into a negative one) I also thought there's direction in the form of signage in the DT for a customer to pull ahead to the window to order if they need help etc. Imagine if it were your mom, aunt, grandma, etc, OP...don't have to embarrass or shame a customer just because you can
Hilbabe42 15 points 1y ago
Seriously. The one time I haven’t been annoyed is when it was a deaf person who was just picking up a mobile order (they showed me the note on their phone when they got to the window, so it wasn’t hard or anything). But otherwise, stop at the box! Sheesh
juju483 14 points 1y ago
I mean, you're really not allowed to. She's allowed to pull to the window for assistance. She could be hearing impaired, etc
victorious_gem 3 points 1y ago
my only guess when someone drives through the order point is like a pharmacy drive thru or a bank, other than that idk how ppl always mess that up
regaltrash 1 points 1y ago
“it’s raining so i skipped the box.”
