'Extra Frappucino' (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 5AV1OR
So, my store has a few customers who will ask for extra shots in their frappucino and then ask to have the 'extra' put in a tall cup. I was trained when you add shots to frapps you use less milk and so there is no extra when I make it. Some customers have gotten very upset at this but, I am curious, is it standard to have extra, and/or is it normal to give extra? What does everyone else do?
vietlazed 225 points 1y ago
Measure shots in the cup first then fraps roast then milk to the bottom black line then into the blender. This way is the right ratio of extra caffeine from extra shots
5AV1OR [OP] 78 points 1y ago
Okay this is what I do at the moment so I am glad to know I was not just making them wrong this whole time!
NOTcreative- 30 points 1y ago
Depending on number of shots it’ll be watery so I usually add extra ice and throw it in next size cup or bonus cup for my cool regs. Also recommend affafato a lot to prevent runny fraps
bootrick 8 points 1y ago
Affagato!

So good

No, you should ask first
NOTcreative- 1 points 1y ago
Which part? Affagato I always use it as a recommendation when they order a frap with shots.
lazymoon03 4 points 1y ago
yes my manager just told us we can’t give this lady her trenta ccf with a double shot anymore bc everyone has been making it wrong lol. so it’s supposed to be 2 shots 2 pumps of frap roast and milk to the 1st she orders a venti btw:)
FfierceLaw 33 points 1y ago
Trenta Caramel Crunch Frappuccino? Doesn’t exist. Even Starbucks Corporate drew a line at Venti for Frappuccinos, and lord knows they are loath to draw a line when it comes to the menu. A Trenta is just gross gluttony
airernie 8 points 1y ago
Confused.. You're subbing the 2 shots of espresso for 2 pumps of frap roast in a venti caramel crunch frap?

Is that on the partner hub?
lazymoon03 4 points 1y ago
that’s what my manager told us the other day but that’s not the way i was trained so i wasn’t sure if that was the right way or not. i still make it the normal way with the same amount of frap roast but it threw me off when they said to sub out frap roast for espresso
miniinovaa 36 points 1y ago
I don’t think that’s right. Defeats the whole purpose of the extra shots
airernie 2 points 1y ago
Thanks.. Guess I'll have to hit the iPad next time I work.
JHOOOOBI 1 points 1y ago
No from what I’m understanding it’s two shots plus frap roast and milk to the first line. No subbing
Sarahthelizard 5 points 1y ago
Fuck that, I would knock the cup out of their hands before I'd let that be handed out.

thank you for this💙 greatly appreciated
vietlazed 2 points 1y ago
Right cause then you will dilute the caffeine if add shots on top
lazymoon03 -14 points 1y ago
yes that and we were told like if it’s a venti w/ 3 shots then it only gets one pump of frap roast and no one at my store knew that until i a new green bean a 320 asked our manager
vietlazed 10 points 1y ago
What! that weird I'm gonna check tomorrow! reducing the fraps....???
Conflict_Thick 186 points 1y ago
no extra for customers, they pay for what’s in the cup not in our blenders

All these are hard for me because my DM says we should not be saying no to customers. Even to warming glazed products in the oven.

It’s frustrating because everyone is trained otherwise…
Minute-Weakness-7169 60 points 1y ago
I would refuse to do that, DM be damned. I’m not risking burning myself for a minimum wage job.
Ashemodragon 11 points 1y ago
At my franchise in the UK we have finally been told we cant warm swirls and what not in the ovens any more since a partner at another store got really badly burnt. About time if you ask me, the icing on top goes like lava once you warm it
Sarahthelizard 8 points 1y ago
> Even to warming glazed products in the oven.

That can damage the oven, call your DM..
Kivic 2 points 1y ago
That was the DM that okayed it
JHOOOOBI 2 points 1y ago
Glazed products should never be going in the oven.😳
5AV1OR [OP] -9 points 1y ago
The glazed product one is interesting to me. I do not quite understand the issue with it, but at my store its a huge no no to warm glazed/frosted pastries for customers.
tenthwalker 26 points 1y ago
The issue is severe burns?
-beam-me-up- 17 points 1y ago
And it damages the oven and is a b and a half to clean off afterwards. And yes I have a lemon loaf scar because my manager had me warm one
5AV1OR [OP] 5 points 1y ago
I didn't know the frosted stuff would burn you. We don't warm frosted products for customers but we have done it for partners and I've tried warmed frosted pastries myself and it hasn't burned or even been close to that temperature. Guess I just got lucky.
moon_light523 9 points 1y ago
even if it doesn’t burn you, you run the risk of it melting and getting all over the oven which can damage it
Malevolent_barnacle 11 points 1y ago
It's a burn hazard, for customers & partners
vietlazed 0 points 1y ago
If they don't care don't mine me break stuff
fuckthisshit____ 32 points 1y ago
This kind of shit is so annoying to me. No, they shouldn’t get extra, and I hate that we’re increasingly accommodating customers’ requests for stupid shit like this. We’re creating a mutant population of entitled Karens.

All the foams, all the shit you can add to foams, different milk options, the stupid seasonal frappuccinos and all their additions and variations, extra this, light that, the ole tall drink in a Trenta cup with light ice, and don’t even get me started on the tiktok secret menu bullshit.

It’s getting out of control and I can’t wait to quit honestly
vietlazed 22 points 1y ago
It will fill the to the right cup amount no extras
Malevolent_barnacle 21 points 1y ago
Standard is we only serve what fills the cup, so like if someone came in with a 40oz fishbowl we can't just make them a super-venti frappuccino
FragrantWin9 6 points 1y ago
Quadrenta
Gemma_V 14 points 1y ago
Absolutely not - the shots go in then the frap roast then the milk to the first line

Even if theres extra for whatever reason (bananas ex) it fills the cup they paid for and thats it. You paid for what you paid for; not for extra goodies on the side.
Assiqtaq 11 points 1y ago
I have told people who complain that I have worked at Starbucks long enough to know my measurements, and therefor I don't make "extra". Which is true, I don't generally. I also try to talk people out of doing more than 2 shots in their fraps, it ruins the texture of the drink. But some people just don't want to hear it.
TheOnesLeftBehind 6 points 1y ago
It is not standard or allowed to give them the extra. They get the cup size they pay for and nothing more.
moon_light523 6 points 1y ago
I think the most you can do to give them “extra” is if they ask for it to be put into the cup larger (like a grande into a venti as the highest and not do a venti into a treta (however you spell it) bc we don’t have the option to do it in the pos) and they can get a little extra whip or something
Brgnbo 5 points 1y ago
I was never trained technically about the shots in the fraps but now I always put the frap roast and shots in the cup, then measure the milk. I haven’t had extra since
thechamelioncircuit 3 points 1y ago
Honestly I’ve dealt with these people so many times that I just fucking scrape up whatever’s left in the pitcher into a short cup and voilá! Extra crap for their cheap ass
pixie---stick 2 points 1y ago
It’s how much ice you use, sometimes it makes extra frapp. If the customer is really sweet I like put on a dome lid and pile up as much as I can in the cup but that’s it

Edit:spelling
Saradigm 2 points 1y ago
Fuck your extra cup, get an iced latte like a real coffee drinker or get out. That’s not something they should even know about, the extra. You paid for 1 Frappuccino and that’s what you get. The TikTok bullshit is enough, I don’t need this shit becoming a new way to make me do things I don’t actually have to. Lmao sorry, this pushed a button. I’d say we weren’t allowed for some excuse, I’m not doing that lmao.
4shotsin 1 points 1y ago
No one at my store seems to know this so I will be glad to give them this answer!
4shotsin 1 points 1y ago
How much less milk? Bc I always put in the normal then get a sloppy mess
5AV1OR [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Put shots and Frap roast in the cup then milk to the bottom line. (If it's a double shot or more I like to go slightly below the bottom line as the shots make the Frappuccino froth a bit more. Think how shots react in shaken espresso.)
Sassycamo39 1 points 1y ago
It depends on how many shots they add to it. If they add more them 4 shots yes I will add more ice and have the extra is a tall cup on the side. I will not top that cup with whipped cream or anything because they did not ask for extra whipped cream.
ahhpoo 1 points 1y ago
So odd that so many of you aren’t ending up with extra when adding shots! I always do the same as y’all say: add shots, then frapp roast, then milk to the bottom line. I always end up with extra because the shots make the frap foamy somehow. There’s more air in it so there’s more leftover
YoshisShadow 1 points 1y ago
If you start with the shots in the cup before base, you will make it really really close and not really enough "extra" to be worth putting in a cup.
rio8envy7 1 points 1y ago
There’s usually some left over when I make a frap. Depends on how much ice, thin, or if I put too much milk in. The customer pays for what’s in the size they order. If they want the extra they have to pay for it.
DeadstockEvocative 1 points 1y ago
it’s also standard bc if u add the milk and frappe roast before shots, it would throw off the the liquid to ice ratio making the frappuccino not the “highest quality beverage”
Vincent_Cromwell27 1 points 1y ago
Everything should only fit in one cup. Starbucks sent out a new standard saying we shouldn’t use two cups for one drink, even if there’s “extra left over”
RareLingonberry 1 points 1y ago
Even if you do the normal amount of milk and then do extra shots they still only pay for what fits in the cup and no more. If a customers wants the extra then they can buy another one
kikiorangutan 1 points 1y ago
We have people that order venti Frappuccino’s with shots and demand it’s in a trenta cup
Local-Refuse2270 1 points 1y ago
How do you put a dome lid then?
kikiorangutan 1 points 1y ago
They usually don’t want whip anyway 🤷‍♀️
The_Septic_Shock 1 points 1y ago
I'll ask if they just want me to sub frap roast for shots. Frap roast is gross and only has the caffeine equivalent of a single shot
Impossible-Reach2427 0 points 1y ago
We usually will give them the extra since they payed for it, they’re more about making the moment right than having to deal with a potential argument in the drive thru, it’s annoying but I see where the manager is coming from as far as giving them the extra. To add to this we also are very careful about making sure to only build the beverage to the 1st like
[deleted] 0 points 1y ago
Do one less pump of base per shot
belleravenclaw -7 points 1y ago
At my store we usually give the extra if the customer asks for it and if there was extra left! Not all the time obviously, but we do that sometimes for customers
