So. To preface this, I was trained poorly on the CS cycle. As in, I was not told to follow a cycle just give a general sweep of things and do what needs to be done. Maybe it's because I'm autistic but that's very overwhelming for me as a position. There have been multiple times where I get told to get something or do something, and I end up getting a huge list in my head and I panic.
Another thing, everytime I try to do my cs cycle, I get pulled away. Like I can't even do dishes or do prep before I suddenly have to get front register.
For example, I start my cs cycle by brewing pike. I go to do a load of dishes, then prep. By the time I get to doing the dishes, I get yelled at to take someone's order. Then by the time I finish taking orders (sometimes it takes people like 20 minutes) I have to make new coffee. Rinse repeat and I never get prep done nor I can keep up with dishes nor I can even keep up with cups and lids.
We even stack back up lids but I always get chewed out to go and put the new cubes in. Which isn't that big of a deal but if I'm one side of the store and the baristas are less than a foot away, it would make more sense if they just grabbed the lids and put the empty cubes for me to refill.
I get that I just need to be faster at my job but how fast can a person be if I'm not even able to keep up with the cs cycle.

To my understanding CS is meant to help planted positions stay in their spot. Only if it’s slow do they do register, otherwise we have separate CS and lobby register positions, but usually we have CS doing support and lobby register doing lobby/mobile bar while it’s slow.

In my store, usually CS does front and the rest of the cs work but idk if that's good

I don’t think so, because of the logistical reasons you listed! Lol can’t do prep when you’re stuck taking orders, and that puts the rest of the positions behind if they’re in dire need of stuff. I guess it also depends on your stores volume and layout. I’ve worked at a store where it was slow and small and they had register also do warming and coffee brewing.

During peak our CS handles front, although the SSV might jump on occasionally.
This is because we do so much food business that constantly pulling the warming person impacts drive thru times.
I can see where it would be tough for a new person, but you eventually learn to never go into the backroom empty handed and never leave the backroom empty handed.

ik it’s supposed to be a cycle but i was never taught the cycle. i just check the code while i’m on my way past it and keep an eye for 30 mins on the clock (most of our timers are broken). i restock, restock, and restock some more, then check milks and syrups and refresher pieces and stuff. back when café was open i would wipe tables. brew more coffee, help make drinks/ do things where people got overwhelmed. brew more coffee, clean some dishes, etc.

Cs is the worst. I’m literally running for my whole shift 🤯

I hate CS aside from running trash and breakdown. We sometimes have a CS depending on time of day and how many of us there are on the floor.
