We’re already a busy store normally, but a nearby store is closed for remodel so we got triple-slammed.
People just had nothing but audacity today. I finally stopped caring and answered honestly.
“Is my drink in line?” Probably. “I’ve been waiting 20 minutes!” So has everyone else. I’m only human. The more you yell at me, the more I’m going to slow down. “This is ridiculous!” We’re hiring if you think you can do better.
I finally said, pretty loudly, “I am 2 more rude people away from walking out. This is NOT my full time job and I don’t get paid enough to be verbally abused.” People kind of calmed down then but I was already mentally done at that point. I wasn’t going to run myself ragged just because we were busy and people were rude. I made drinks at a steady pace and did my job well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My whole store went through war today. Us vs. Feral & Entitled Customers. And honestly my team is the only thing that kept me sane today. We just muttered to each other under our masks or on the head sets to joke or keep ourselves from collapsing.
Thanks for letting me vent.

People can be so entitled. Imagine seeing a massive queue, CHOOSING to wait in it, and then complaining when your order isn't waiting for you by the time you get to bar????

small cafe store here: recently our store has been hitting an uprise in sales… like to the point of where we can’t keep up.
To give context:
-One bar was down due to the steamer being broken
-Near by store is down for remodeling as well
-College Football game
-Deliveries out the apple crisp
-Mobiles with at-least 6-7 drinks in a single order -Curbside
-two baristas down and had to go to the back to cry
-a literal Karen (the name) and her BFF decide to stand over and complain about how their drinks aren’t being made fast enough. As if the baristas weren’t all on the verge of a mental breakdown (2 baristas had already and still had tears in their eyes)
-serving 50+ every half hour (in a cafe only)
If it wasn’t for the free college (that I plan on taking advantage of in the next few months) I would’ve walked out
I’m sick of the corporates toxic positivity
I’m sick of being grind down to the last speck of espresso bean… and expect to actually care about other things other than not having a mental breakdown while making a PSL.
Just know that my store was also at war today… my condolences…
please, anyone. What are jobs that allow you to keep your sanity and pays for your college because the siren is taking all that I have left (292 partner)

I’m surprised you weren’t… in trouble for that buuuuut that’s amazing and technically you didn’t say anything baaaad 😂 but atleast the customers finally left you alone

Honestly my co workers have said more intense things than that. Today even. But our SM has our back.
Edit to add example: Customer “I ordered 15 minutes ago!” Co-worker: “Sounds about right” (I about spit-laughed in my mask)

Mine to but also always make them happy 😅

Oh God. We were in a similar situation not too long ago. Mobiles were at an hour long wait. I'd tell people if they tried to order in store. I had a woman yell at me because she left her kid in the car and couldn't wait another 20 minutes.
People would get mad. "My name is John but that isn't what I ordered" Okay cook then someone else named John ordered something.
"Mine said it would be ready two minutes ago" "well were about an hour behind" but mine was moble "Yeah that's where we're an hour behind"
People were yelling at the baristas on bar telling them to just move faster. It was a nightmare. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.

I talk to customers like that all the time, honestly. I’m in “the medium hood” and if you don’t snap back, they will absolutely destroy you. I’m sorry but I’m a human being and just because you’re the customer, you do not get to be entitled and disrespect me however you please.
PandaVike [OP]5 points1y ago
Like we can tell when customers make honest mistakes or have genuine questions and when they just have no awareness. I wouldn’t scold a customer just innocently asking but the Chad who tried to lean over my plexi and wag his finger in my face… absolutely not. Get away from me.

Yeah, I’m totally with you. Saturdays are always a shitshow and such was the case today. Normally most customers are dickheads but this very kind gentleman asked for a cup of water while I bringing food to the end of the bar. I was on POS and warming and the oven was beeping so I couldn’t get it for him, but I made sure to ask my coworkers that weren’t entirely preoccupied. That’s the thing, if you’re respectful I’ll do more to help you. If you’re not, gtfo. I’m not your plaything you can project your negativity onto and I won’t stand there and be treated that way.
I tend to be a target everywhere I go anyway so I have to be snappy otherwise I’m a goner. Not sure why but it’s annoying and exhausting.

Honestly, I hope my store gets shut down. We're on the freeway exit. The customers suck. The manager cares about us only if we work 12hr shifts like she does and any other time she thinks we're not working hard enough. Today we were down a shift due to sudden illness and my coworkers and I decided to close the cafe until a new shift could come in. Our manager hears about the cafe closure and yells at us for doing so even though, we're not supposed to be open without a shift manager... Did I mention that the rest of my coworkers were under age? Only by chance, did I come in today. The person I was covering for was also a minor... There would have been four minors unsupervised during two hours without a shift manager.... Umm and we get yelled at?! Thinking about quitting lmfao
