Why do some partners get to choose their schedules and others have to take the left overs? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by wtchtrsh
I have been a partner since 2007, I am a shift. I have been wanting to open for years, but every time there’s an opportunity for me to open it goes to someone else, despite me asking. I am so tired of closing, we just hired a new shift and they are being given opens. Does anyone have advice on how I can get through to my SM?

Change your availability, switch shifts and when your Sm is doing schedules make sure to be like “oh by the way can I open x times a week?” If they don’t want to accommodate your request it’s going to suck but look at other stores and see if they need openers

I’m only a barista yet, but if I had to guess you’re prob a great closer and they don’t want to switch you but the SM should’ve accommodating you by now though 🧐

Nobody gets to choose their schedule. I think it depends on a few things. i this other shift in school? Do they have another job? There are factors on how someone is scheduled. If you want to open change your availability so that you’re available to open. Say you’re able to open and maybe specify that you would prefer to open.

The other shift at my store has another full time job, just transferred from a store that closed and was given the option of their schedule after I asked my manager to change to opens for the 10th time. I am needing a more supportive schedule in order to utilize ASU company benefit. Even at other stores I have worked there seems to always be shifts that refuse to close and I am given no options.

I mean that’s probably why they open. Maybe explain that to your manager.

I've never asked. I've always said, hey, I can't work XYZ any more for reasons, here is my new availability. It's always worked. The only time I got shit about it I just went to another manager in town and said, hey, I'm a 10 year partner. I need to work XYZ and my current manager can't support that. They transfered me in 3 weeks later.
