I agree it can be annoying, but starbucks can certainly afford it. I don’t think there’s really a set standard for it.

I make little ribbons on the walls and double the crosshatch on top, but unless they do the overly dramatic "EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA EXTRAAAAAAA" caramel bullshit on DTO I don't do the coat-the-cup thing. I think it sets up future baristas for remakes because, as you said, now the customer thinks that should happen every time. Also I wonder why these people bother ordering other flavors in their drink; when you're sucking up an assload of caramel in your straw with every sip, I don't think you can really taste the beverage itself. Maybe that's just me.

Unless they specifically ask for walls, we just add more to the top.
