How to leave for a week with little notice? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by b0gw1tch
Hi, so I currently live 900 miles from my family, and there's a member of my family who's health had been declining, and I need to see him as soon as possible because I don't know how much time we'll have together. It takes two ish days to drive from here to there, so I expect a trip to take at least a week. Idk what to tell my asm that I need to leave in the next couple days. I told our sm but he's on vacation, and I've tried to get my shifts covered for the week but only one person has been able to help me out. Idk what to do, I don't want to leave my coworkers struggling but I have to go.

Do what is best for you and your family. I know it’s sucks to feel like you’re letting your coworkers down but in the end your family is more important and even if it sucks for your coworkers they will get over it eventually. It’s just a job it’s just coffee. Do what you can to get the shifts covered but don’t let yourself feel guilty for the ones that aren’t.

Honestly, this is just me, but I'd tell the asm there's a family emergency and explain the situation to them.

If you qualify for FMLA pursue that route. If not just explain there is a family emergency and how long you will be unavailable.
