Hey folks! Im sorry in advance for how long this is but theres a lot to this.

So some background about myself and my store really quick, I work at a little café shop in a college town. I've been a shift supervisor for about 2 and half years and overall we've got a really good team, with the exception of one person. This person, we'll call him Greg, has been an absolute nightmare. Greg started at the height of Rona and started as shift outright, nothing wrong with that but we knew he'd need a little extra time to adjust.

Now things were a little rough with Greg at first, he was having a hard time adjusting when we were making changes (aka re-opening the café, mask mandates, ect.) but we figured things would get better with time. He also was making off little comments that would always throw us off (ex: first day we worked together I was grabbing the mats to clean them and was breathing a little hard because they're heavy and he accused me of being a weak person).

Flash foward about 8 months into Greg working with us, things are a little better, his closes are decent, and he seems to be getting along with everyone, then we have our first big incident. One night while working with one of our regular baristas, we'll call her Leah, Greg pushed her. And I'm not talking like a light touch, like FULL ON shoved her because she was in front of a register (also for further context this man is 40, 6'5, and probably 300 lbs. and "Leah" is 23, 5'0, and maybe 120 lbs) she reported him, it went under investigation by our DM and RD. We were told Greg was on a "final strike" meaning if anything else was reported or done he would be terminated.

Now because of this incident Leah and Greg were no longer allowed to work together. So he got a new closing barista, we'll call her Mary, she was a transfer and she was great! She knew a lot and was super sweet, but Greg absolutely hated her. He would take every chance he could to talk some sort of shit about her if there was another shift there. He would also do this right in front of her sometimes, which obviously made her quite upset.

We were also just having a plethora of other issues with Greg. He was leaving baristas in the store alone to run errands, run expired pastires to surrounding businesses, doing trash runs after close (our trash can in down the street in an alley so these take longer and also should not be done after dark), and overall his closes were very poor. Mary was also very fed up with the attitude Greg had with her and also doing a majority of the work. She did attempt to speak with our SM many times but nothing was done with the exception of "having a talk with him". So about 4 months into Mary's time at our store, she quit, and made it clear it was because of Greg. But no conversations were had and he basically got away with the whole thing.

Now as if all that wasn't enough, he's decided to up the ante even more. Hes gotten very passive aggressive with his comments ("you're incompetent because you're a woman", almost got hit in the head by a coworker and his response was "dont say sorry to her, not like it would have damaged anything anyways") very sexual comments to my other male, gay coworkers, and even racist comments as well. He also is still leaving baristas alone in the store, keeping baristas after their time to leave by HOURS, not providing breaks for baristas, and also recently has gotten a harassment complaint from a customer. We took all this information I've provided and more to our SM and DM and even have called ethics and compliance.

Their response? We'll either suspend him or transfer him. I'm sorry, what? If we suspend him it will more then likely be a max of 2 weeks, which he will just come back and still preform the same behaviors. And sending him to another store will not solve the issue. Yes, we will not have to deal with him here, but why put that on another store and their partners there? Is there a reason why corporate is letting this man stay despite them claiming he had a final warning months ago?

We're at a loss and don't know where to turn. No one in our district will listen to us and every single person at our store has spoken with our SM about their concerns. Is there anything else we can do? Or is it just time to put in our 2 weeks? We really care about our store and want to stay together and obviously keep our benefits as well but we're not sure if there's anything else that can really be done.

Thank you for taking the time to read this if you've made it this far. I hope y'all have an awesome day

-a very tired shift

I’ll be honest. I would call PrSc every day about this. I would call the RM.

and then I would leave. none of what he has done is OK.

i’m a green bean so i’m not exactly sure what higher ups you could talk to, but i’d make an effort to talk to all of them. the higher you can go, id assume the better. without doing anything illegal, maybe try documenting these things happening? i don’t know exactly what documentation that would be, but i’d assume security footage for one. get a group to complain and continue to complain. be as annoying as possible about it.
