definitely talk to the manager. you should not be doing anything other than training activities on the floor.

it’s not normal, but also a lot of things aren’t normal right now. I just trained a new hire and for various reasons (sick kids, sick babysitters, waiting for a negative covid test, people calling out) we weren’t able to do all her scheduled training shifts and had to kinda squeeze them in on the next schedule. The time they allot for training is already inadequate, and then you add all the other scheduling struggles and yea, it’s not ideal. 😬 sorry, friend! Hang in there! If other partners seem annoyed, try not to take it personally. We’re all just stressed out in general.

honestly with all that's going on that makes sense. i'm just terrified of making a mistake regarding ingredients and allergies because i barely know how to punch drinks in on the fucking register like it's mortifying to think about. thank you for the feedback :)

Your experience at Starbucks can vary so much depending on the store you’re in. If this is how new staff are trained at your store, run. I don’t care the staffing emergency, I’ve had new staff & I’ve never thrown them on register because without allergen training you’ll get someone killed and Starbucks will turn around and blame it on you. Also it’s guaranteed baristas will end up remaking a ton of drinks because it takes a while to understand how to put things through properly.

Even in the understaffed, no training shifts thrown straight into coverage- new normal, what they did was ridiculous, find a different store. That level of not giving a fuck about your training is the biggest indicator of this is not somewhere you want to work.

genuinely did not know allergen training is a thing. i'm going to text the manager tomorrow and let her know that i don't think i'm receiving proper training. i hope she isn't a bitch about it. thanks for the reply

Sounds like you were thrown to the wolfs. It's certainly not normal at all what happened to you. Hopefully you will get some actual training. Welcome to the siren.
