I’ve been a partner for 8 months, and I’ve never been put in any other position for more than 15 minutes. So I was hired at a drive-thru store, but was cafe to train. I wasn’t trained on how to sequence correctly while at the cafe store and only got a couple of hours on bar. When I finished my training, I went to the drive-thru store and immediately got put on window. I’ve been there ever since. Even when I transferred to a store closer to my house, I was still always put on window. I asked my SSVs to please put me in a different position so I can learn how to do other things. They would always refuse and put me back on window. Sometimes they would be a little nasty about it. So I went to my SM and told her that in order to grow into a better partner, I needed to be put in other positions. I would never be a multi-faceted partner who could work every position efficiently if I never got to do anything but window. At first she threw the excuse that “well your only availability is opening”. I shot back “well the new partner opened and got trained on bar and warming”. So she said she would see what she could do. She set me up to have a partner train me how to open bar. But after I open bar, I’m always sent to DT-both. I’ve asked several different times to be put in other positions, but I’m always told I’d be too slow and it would effect drive times. So I would effect drive times, but the new person who took 5 minute to make a drink wouldn’t?
Can anybody explain this to me? Is it something I’m doing? What’s going on? Why are they willing to let new people who are super slow work other positions, but I always get placed on window?

This is really wack. It’s normal to stick new partners on window during peak for even a few months because it really is important to be efficient during those periods, but also every SSV I’ve ever worked with has made sure to get the new people time on all positions when it’s quieter so they can practice.
If there’s another store near you, you could sit down with the SM there and tell them about your experience and ask about a transfer and training. That’s super weird and terrible and I’m sorry that’s happening to you.

I would not, because you can’t be there for your whole shift, my opinion you should transfer to a different Starbucks, or have a one on one with your store manager. Plus at my school, we only use window for peak and training purposes.

I’ve had discussions with my manager. She keeps alternating between “I’ll see what I can do” and “well, if you worked more evenings, it would be easier”. I worked during the evening once, and you know what I did? DT-both, while dismantling and cleaning drive bar.

As a new morning shift, I mostly put my fellow partners what they are good. When we are on Go time (Peak). When peak is over, I will start breaks, after people are done with their breaks I put people what they need to work on and how busy it is. You are suppose to rotate every 2 or 4 hours for each shift.

So you would keep a partner who is supposedly good at the window there from 4am-1pm?
