When does it stop getting overwhelming? :( (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sh3nan1gans_
Second full day at my new store! I trained last week. And today they had me do three different things and complained when food was coming slow, but I was register and CS. Today I just felt super anxious and overwhelmed and felt like everyone was so annoyed :/ when does it stop feeling like this. When will everything click.

You’ll be ok. It’s your second day aside from training. You’re not going to get everything right away and even I’m slow on warming while doing 10 other things especially when I’m picking up everyone else’s slack or we’re slammed and I’ve been with Starbucks for 6 years. It’ll feel that way for awhile but eventually it’ll go away. You have to build confidence in yourself which I’ve learned the hard way and again been here 6 years and up until like 6 or 7 months ago I gained confidence in my abilities and it’s reflecting in my work. My shift taught me something you may find helpful. If you’re on pos or anywhere really take a minute and tap your fingers in an alternating rhythm. Left then right left then right. It should help you pull out of feeling stressed because you’re focusing on the rhythm instead of everything else. I even just tap out a tune with my finger nails like I’m practicing scales. It takes time. You just need to practice. The more you do things the better you’ll become because you’ll believe in yourself.

I’ve been a partner for over 3 years and still struggle sometimes TBH. When you’re doing warming alone it can be overwhelming but then when you add register/CS it can be too much. Don’t feel bad. I got to a point where I realized my check will be the same if the food item/drinks come out in 30 seconds or 2 minutes. Don’t break yourself over this job :)

Yesterday was just too overwhelming to the point where I went and cried in the bathroom. I felt like I was being asked to do a lot for someone who’s still new :/ maybe that’s normal but idk. I get anxious easily too cuz adhd so that could be it too. I’m just hoping today will be better. They have me on bar today. They had me on DT bar for the last two hours of my shift yesterday and that got hectic cuz I was on all DT drinks and some lady had ordered 4 mocha cookie fraps which slowed me down even more :(

It takes time and practice!!! You'll get comfortable eventually don't try to rush it and don't get discouraged when customers/coworkers are upset with you. It's literally your second week.
