i know working @ sbux, you experience some really shitty people. but what are some of the nicest customer interactions you’ve ever had?

A customer asked me for a couple of beans and I told her we had bags for sale. She told me she just needed a few for an arts and crafts project, so I gave her like twenty. The next week she came back and gave me a candle she made with them!

We have a regular, we will just call her “A”. We technically have two regulars that share the same first name but this one in particular that I am talking about is the kindest, most sincerest person you will ever meet. Within my first few days of working at my sbux, she saw me, introduced herself by giving me a big hug and said we are friends now! She has a child who is a member of the LGBT community and she’s always wearing something with pride on it. Literally the best part of the day is getting to interact with her and have some small talk, and continuing the conversation when she comes back again later in the day! The funny thing is there are two other Sbux closer to where she lives in town but she always comes to ours. 🖤

I also made a first just a few minutes prior to you explaining one of the worst customers I’ve ever dealt with. Didn’t know if you saw that were whether or not that was the reason for your post…

It really is! And then we also have the regulars to tend to be more critical of us. Like one who always orders A couple of shots of espresso over ice, sweet cream, caramel drizzle up and down the inside of the cup, whip cream on top, with caramel drizzle and the crunch topping on top. She has this expectation that everything shouldn’t mix together and should be evenly layered, but apparently she doesn’t understand how gravity works. She is the other regular who shares the same first name. So whenever she gets her drink and sees that everything starts to mix and she will usually make some snarky comment like, “oh, do we have new baristas training today?”

We have a regular who I’ll call “K” who is the sweetest human being. She ends every order with “and I want *barista’s name* to have a great day!” Always tips 5 dollars, and is just overall a pleasure. She brightens the morning for sure.

I live in a fairly, discriminatory area, and we have these two regulars who will come in and sit in our store for hours, (One is trans the other POC) and one day they walked up to the register and said "Do you know why we come in here so often?" None of us really had an answer, and they told us it is because they have not found a single other place in our town that is so accepting and friendly to them, everywhere else they go they feel out of place, judged, or outright not wanted. They then bought a pizza for us almost every day that week! It honestly made my month knowing we are providing a welcoming and safe environment for them.

Repeat customers who remember your name even when you forget to put a nametag on. Like.. they remembered my name even after a quick exchange??
I like when nice/kind customers use my name

Just today a customer came through the drive. I noticed they were a teacher at my old school district (I left before they started though) but we got talking about school and she said, “I’ll tell my kids about you and how you’re from *town* too! It’ll inspire them to think about what they want to be when they get older!”

Literally made my day. Sometimes customers are pretty shitty but sometimes the nice ones really make an impact. ❤️❤️ warmed my cold heart lol

I haven’t really had any customer experiences yet because our cafe has been closed a lot of the days I work so I just run DTO mostly. So its a faster pace and i dont really get to make that connection. But I have had days where it’s been warm so I keep the window open and talk to them. One day there was a lady who was going to her wedding the next Monday so we talked about it and she was glowing. But yeah normally I just ask people how their day is going, where are they headed to, and wish them a wonderful rest of their day. Oh I did have a lady who came in and had a bad attitude at first but she bought espresso beans and we were super busy so I flexed on register and took her order and talked for like 10 minutes about espresso with her and she lit up once she felt like someone cared about her. So before she left she said “thank you, this has been lovely, you made my day” 🥺

A woman mobile ordered a mango dragonfruit with no inclusions for her son. When she got it, she realized that without the inclusions it was basically just mango juice with water. She apologized a lot and asked if there was any way to get the dragonfruit flavor in without putting in the pieces, because her son has ASD and a lot of sensory issues, so he can’t stand having the fruit pieces in there. She was so nice and we were slow, so my coworker remade the drink and used two spoons to sift through and get just dragonfruit powder. She and the son both apologized to us for the trouble, but we told them not to worry about it. I mean, I don’t like the soggy fruit in my drink either. Then she thanked us a bunch of times and tipped us $10. Definitely wouldn’t mind custom-making something for her again!

There’s one guy who’s in charge of breakfast at one of the hotels nearby, and he brings us a bunch of food to eat every single day!

I had a rough day a couple weeks ago. Like a rough.. 1 hour into my opening shift I guess. And one of my favorite regulars comes through. She always comes before peak, but after open, so she’ll make my morning better after having to deal with some of the rudest customers during that time. And she said “you need to just get some Halloween candy, it’ll be better.”
I thought it was funny, because candy would’ve made it better. And a couple days ago, I go to say hi to her while she’s at the window and she asks me “snickers or Milky Way.” And I say snickers and she pulls a bag of snickers out and gives it to me. Made my whole week.

A man sang his order to us a few weeks ago! It was only three of us and we have good senses of humor, it wasn’t busy, and he was very friendly and polite so I just rang it as my markout and gave it to him 😁 he was shocked and wished us a blessed day

Morning shift also has a regular that sends us donuts or other foods once in a while whenever she comes by and she is an absolute angel

Pretty much every time a customer chats with me, compliments me or is just overall cool, funny and/or pleasant I appreciate them forever though!

The best customer interaction I had… someone spit in my face and finally inspired me to quit. Truly the best thing to happen to me in 14 years…

I quoted Rafiki’s little “squash banana” song and knew what the Swahili meant (because he tells Simba right after) and this guy was blown away that I knew how to say it and what it meant. Clearly made his day
