What are your fave/least fave things customers do?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Normal_Human_4567
Just thought it'd be fun to see!
My pet peeve is customers being given their first drink and going "um?? I ordered FOUR drinks??" Okay. Get an octopus to serve you then
But my fave is complimenting customers on their clothes/nails/accessories and they're always so cute with it! "oh, thank you, I got it at X!! Thank you! (bye!) aw bye, have a nice day!! Thank you!!" Especially if they were obviously just going through the motions before that. I have interrupted their day in a positive way and their reaction is always so genuine :)
One good customer can genuinely eliminate my bad mood from the bad customers at the start of the day

When I ask a customer how their day has been and they give me an honest answer, I love that. I genuinely DO want to hear about your daughter’s upcoming wedding or the baby shower or your sister’s dog eating the burgers at the bbq when nobody was looking. Even when it’s something sad and I can commiserate with them or try to cheer them up, it makes being there at fuck o’clock in the morning more worth it.
I hate when customers straight up don’t look at you or say a single word the entire time when they pull up to the drive window. Like, I’m not a robot, you can glance in my general direction and say “no, I don’t need a receipt” instead of ignoring me. It’s different than someone being upset or unable, like you can tell they don’t see you as worthy of attention.

Ah yeah I love when customers tell you what they're up to! Especially when unprompted, because they're so excited they want to tell you. I love it!!
I agree too, customers who can't even stop to a hello or goodbye? Just "coffee" and then figuring out what they actually want is like pulling teeth

If they ignore me and dont respond I lean in and speak louder lol “DID YOU WANT THE RECEIPT?😁👹”

Least fav thing is when customers ask "Well, what *do* you have?" when I've told them we're out of one thing. Another least fav is when men call me sweetheart or dear.
Fave is when customers see how swamped we are and back up or say "no worries!" or "take your time" (that second one has never actually happened in real life, but a girl can dream).

Aw the fave one would be ideal!! People just don't be like that though 😓

My two least favorite things are when you ask the person at the order box to wait a minute and they continue ordering. And then when you ask the person at the order box how they are and they completely ignore you and continue ordering.
My favorite thing is when I ask someone how they are and they respond and then ask me how I am. It’s like the smallest little thing, but it makes me feel like they view me as an equal and not someone beneath them.

This is such a basic thing but it almost never happens! I mean I get that people just want to get their drink and go, but at least say hello back, you know? I think maybe twice in four months, someone has asked *me* how *I* am first, and it was so surprising! But so nice!

The biggest thing I hate is them leaning in and asking if every drink that comes out is theres, or not hearing me call out their name (I project/yell sometimes depending on noise level) and then get pissy with me because they didn’t pay attention.
My favorite thing is when they tip 😌
Normal_Human_4567 [OP]3 points1y ago
Oh god, that's the WORST! They get a latte and I put out like, a frappuccino "is this mine?" Obviously not!! I've actually posted here befor about a customer who ripped into me and made me cry because he misheard his drink being called. Sucks!!
I've been tipped once and I rode that high all day :') (UK, tipping at cafés isn't really common here)

My favorite customers use the bathroom and leave.
Normal_Human_4567 [OP]1 points1y ago
I would agree with you but last night we were literally just closing, a girl asked to use the bathroom, and blocked the toilet. Left a decorative loo roll garland as well. Sis why

Favorite: when they give a shit about us. I love when regulars learn our names, remember things about us, and especially when they stop to talk with us while zipping in to grab their mobile order. Customer connection is a legitimate thing, even if the way the company pushes it is bullshit, and becoming friends with customers is such a rewarding feeling.
Least fave: Existing? Is that a valid answer?
Because some days...
Normal_Human_4567 [OP]2 points1y ago
Some days I wish I could just vanish. Simply stop existing. My atms float about looking at flowers n shit and then re-convalesce when I feel better

We have this one regular who always orders the same drink - Venti Mocha frap with mocha drizzle. When dealing with a new barista at reg - such as myself - he simply states his order, " for NAME, and I won't need a receipt." Once we got him and his drink memorized, he's almost proud for us. Very friendly guy, and it really is a pleasure when we have a barista on bar and reg who know him and get his drink rung up and made pretty much by the time he's gotten to the register.
Then there's this lady who I feel really just comes in to order only to see our smiling faces and have a brief chit chat with us. The drink is just a bonus on the side.

We have a girl who gets the same haha! She's the only person who gets it, and shares an uncommon name with someone else I know, so I remembered her really fast! The other day I told her I always recognise her order and she went "oh no, I'm here too much" 🤣 she's great!!

Please, and I am begging customers, to stop leaning over the bar, handoff, and mobile handoff. You’re in the fucking way of literally EVERYONE.
