No one will ever put extra shots of espresso in a drink to fill it up, that’s just dangerous and time consuming. It takes a lot less time to throw more milk or ice in lol

Yeah, so milk or ice. I’ve only ever had people complain their cup isn’t full enough.

Edit: Also no, more syrup is not added.
Edit: I’m not even saying it’s the right thing to do, it’s just what we typically do.

Kinda, they wanted us to ask -every time- if by light ice, they wanted oatmilk to the top or leave the room because it’s supposed to be an “espresso forward” beverage. Default to extra oatmilk for mobiles.
The irony is blonde espresso doesn’t have a strong espresso flavor…

Anyway, bonus; they said charge for alt milks for the regular shaken espresso, “so it’s more comparable in price to the others”. Crazy huh?

I explain this regularly and still get people like this poster that say these exact things to me as a shift and I then reexplain how it works and they typically want a shot and I then take them to charge for that shot too, and add it in. They are entitled and want it all for free because for some reason that gives them value in life. But yeah explaining never helps me, I still do it each time because it’s what I’m paid to do, but yeah. I hope it helps others.

I believe it was never meant to mean free product, however, the whole ‘make the moment right’ means giving away free product becomes the standard as it’s easier than explaining to people why they’re getting less. Even tho it’s not like they’re getting short changed.
Edit: I was reminded of one of my last days working at good ole Starbucks a few weeks ago. A girl ordered a venti dragon drink, ice on the side. It was super busy and I already hated my job so I figured malicious compliance was the only thing getting me through my last shifts and gave her exactly that. So I didn’t top up the cup all the way as her ice was on the side. I actually assumed she just didn’t want it shaken with the ice so it wouldn’t water down the drink as our refreshers are kept on the counter and aren’t cold. Nope. She wanted extra and got annoyed when I wouldn’t give it to her. One of my coworkers ended up giving her the free product t

it’s most of our customers these days honesty. dunno if it was covid or what but this past year has truly brought out the fucking worst in them. it’s gotten so bad that me and my coworkers genuinely get happy when someone orders a normal drink from the menu.

Unfortunately not many of us baristas do this or educate people about it. But a shaken espresso can be considered "less ice" if you shake it longer/harder. You still get the foam and the ice but the ice is way more crushed than before giving them the illusion lol. This only applies to shaken espressos so nobody knows abt this. My fellow baristas give it a try next time lol

You are right indeed, my friend! Same concept applies to refreshers and teas. After giving it a very good shake, you can always expect light ice. Therefore if a drink isn’t shaken at all, many customers will think that a barista put extra ice in their drink.

I think youre misunderstanding the process. You use the regular amount of ice but shake it extra hard so it gets crushed, giving the impression of less ice. The amount of milk used is relatively the same if done this way

This is one of those "damned if we do, damned if we don't" things. If the drink was made with light ice, but the normal amount of oatmilk, we run the risk of being yelled at for not going the cup 🙄

These shaken espresso drinks that we are NOT ALLOWED to fill up all the way are just another way to make partners suffer. I have gotten into so many arguments/incidents/blow-ups just because of a drink that Starbucks tells us we cannot fill to the actual top. Evil, truly evil. I think they want us to get screamed at by morons.

Edit: The recipe card says that we are to fill the milk to 6mm below the rim. So, originally we were supposed to leave room.
However, they came out with a weekly update in March telling us to fill it all the way because customers were getting mad. They didn’t change the recipe card though, for some reason.

No, she simply didn’t understand that a) ice cubes are physical objects that take up space, and b) the laws of displacement say that, in this case, ice makes the liquid rise. Like, what bro? Your drink doesn’t make sense. You ask for light ice, and it’s 3 ounces of espresso. Do you want the rest of your cup to have oat milk or not? If you want your drink to be full of milk with 3 shots, it’s actually a latte, so they’re giving you a great deal on price by charging you for an espresso with milk added

To be fair, we ask all of our customers who order the drink if they want extra oat milk, due to the drink looking half full otherwise. So this isn't really an issue for that reason.
