Oh, customers (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by FairProfessional0
Had a customer today make snarky remarks at me about their drink not being ready (but they had only waited like 5 mins and there were multiple others in the queue before theirs. it was during a rush.) and act rudely while I made their drink. Then when I handed it off they immediately pulled a 180 and apologized and tried to amicably joke with me. Why are people like this? I appreciate an apology but the way they were unhinged and then only switched up once I had finished helping them...seems like manipulation. I just don’t get how people just flip the switch like that with how they treat people.

Edit: And I know some people have reasons for being like that (bipolar or just having a bad day), but this seemed intentional which is why I put in that last sentence !

It’s kinda scary. Some people are giant babies with wallets. They make no sense. I don’t even understand where they find the energy to act like they do. I could never.

For real! They aren’t going to get their way acting like that. I’m going to make drinks in the sequential order and if it takes awhile, that’s because we’re getting a lot of orders. They seem to treat us like punching bags

They treat us like we are subhuman idiots. As if it’s so easy to do our job. Maybe the act of making a drink is easy, but the bullshit that correlates with this job is not easy to endure. Those horrible customers that become our villains could never cut it. That’s what’s the most annoying thing about it!

Gotta hit them with the "Thank you for your incredible patience, have an enjoyable rest of your day!"

It’s because people the feel bad for being jerks and want you to excuse their bad behavior. They make a joke to get you to say “that’s ok!” so they don’t have to feel bad. I would just hand them their drink and say “enjoy”. They don’t deserve to have their feelings assuaged by you!

I say, "Thank you for your apology!" As this doesn't excuse what they have done, but rather emphasizes that they did have something to be apologetic about. I'm of course cheerful and sincere when I say it because I don't want to be fired.
