tell me your store is disgusting w/o telling me your store is disgusting(i.redd.it)

I don't drink anything made by somebody else at my own store, because of what I've seen them say is "fine"
olivinemultichrome42 points1y ago
There’s only two people at my store I trust to make drinks. Everyone else is nasty.
star_pants55 points1y ago
It's also just stuff like the fact the shakers are so dirty because nobody scrubs them so when I actually do I had someone get excited that we had new shakers. Nope, they were just clean
salty_vs_salty [OP]52 points1y ago
Partners trying to say they can't get the tea dispensers clean, so eventually they're all a dingy brown. 🤦♀️ Um, no, you just didn't even try.
rosebudftw54 points1y ago
Lmao one time I was closing and I scrubbed the dishes and someone was like why are you scrubbing them this isn’t your house and I was like so they’re clean…..
SelocAvrap37 points1y ago
One time I had a shift try to coach me on putting dishes straight in the sanitizer instead of washing them. As in I was told to stop scrubbing the dishes and just dunk them in sani. Disgusting
dgvelling10 points1y ago
Depending on what you scrub it with you are causing micro permanent tears and bacteria builds up. It’s why I hate when people use the magic erasers for everything
star_pants3 points1y ago
I just scrub it with the provided blue scrubbers, and buy more shakers when they crack every few months. Never had a problem with it before. These shakers were still pretty new but they only ever dunk/dunk/dunk and consider it clean so it had espresso/tea buildup inside
star_pants37 points1y ago
I moved to a new store last month and haven't used a food markout while at work for the same reason
StormTheParade21 points1y ago
This was me when I transferred stores - the final store I worked at was the only corporate-owned store for a 16 mile radius, and it was fucking disgusting. Syrup caked all over the bars, nobody even knew you could take the sheath off the steaming wand (old mastrenas!) And they had no turnover routine... Didn't even know what the word "turnover" was.
The SM had to regularly coach the employees on not sticking their fingers inside cups when picking them up, and had to scold one girl for consistently eating strawberry inclusions out of the bag *while on the floor restocking the inclusions.*
That store was a dumpster fire then, and I'm willing to bet if that SM is around then it's still an absolute shitshow. It's a shame it's the only option for a DT Starbucks unless you drive for 30 minutes in any direction lmao
medusas-garden12 points1y ago
I’m kinda embarrassed to ask this as a 287 but what’s the turnover routine? We might call it something different idk I’ve just never heard of that
StormTheParade6 points1y ago
Maybe it was just what my store called it? It was the word for daypart changes - morning to mid, and mid to close!
So morning turnover for mid was pulling blonde and decaf roasts, swapping smallwares, the morning pull I think? and general restocking/CS stuff. Basically making sure that the handoff from SSV to SSV is smooth
medusas-garden3 points1y ago
Oh I see. At my store all the day parts kinda meld together so we don’t have a set routine like that. We also have more shifts than normal so there’s typically more than one shift on duty at a time and that makes transitions easier since we’re either working together or at least know what’s going on.
[deleted]2 points1y ago
My sink was so nasty we had to shut down the store early. My asm doesn't care lol. They just sit down and get paid. My co workers during the morning did nothing.
miniinovaa3 points1y ago
I’m 247 and idk what turnover means lol
bubblegumm0026 points1y ago
i think they might mean smallwares?? idk im just guessing
WonderVirgo882 points1y ago
Turnover means ( a lot of people quit )
Lamlot32 points1y ago
I covered a shift at a store once, was told to clean drains. I saw one that they never knew about and never cleaned. An inch thick of black sludge. Never worked or got coffee there again.
Assiqtaq26 points1y ago
One of my coworkers legitimately thinks it is perfectly acceptable to put rinse water (off the espresso machine's rinse function) into mocha to "make it mix better". I will not get a drink if she is working and I'm there to visit. There is more, but I personally think this is enough.
Edit: into the mocha in a cup, before adding milk or espresso. Any of the thick sauces, really.
Animuthrowawayplz16 points1y ago
But...you just swirl it around after putting the shots in and it does the same thing....
Assiqtaq8 points1y ago
Indeed yes, it does. None of us can figure out why that makes sense to her, but this doesn't. But then again, I broke her brain because we need more pitchers for cold brew but aren't getting them when we order them, so I wanted to put the brew in a cambro cube until a pitcher empties. Woman could just not cope with that idea. We also have a pump that is labeled for chai, but is actually configured for mocha so I marked it so I'll know to be careful when I use it until we can get a replacement that is accurate. Again, broke her brain. She just could not understand my issue.
Animuthrowawayplz7 points1y ago
Is she new? Like this sounds like green bean brain. Like especially for the using cubes for cold brew. We gave the kegs, but use the cubes as well for our back up until we have kegs empty to make too.
Assiqtaq7 points1y ago
No, she has been there for YEARS. We are in a grocery store, not a full SB, and we are trying to actually get her booted out of our kiosk. But she has been there long enough to actually know how things work, and not to care.
salty_vs_salty [OP]1 points1y ago
Oh. My. God. That is so awful on every food safety level. Wow. Report anonymously to corporate?
Assiqtaq1 points1y ago
She has been reported for many things. She then reports us for... you know? I'll share another of her things.
So our manager a couple of months ago shared a frustration with our DM when she came for a meeting. Our lovely coworker is bound and determined to save this planet any way she can, and one of the things she wants to save the planet by doing is reusing plastic pumps. Our old manager had given up the fight with this one and pretty much let her do what she wanted, so what she would do is pump dishwater through them, then sanitizer, then place them in our smallware container until a syrup became empty and she could use it. When I started working there I'd throw them away when I was alone. Our new manager agreed with me so we both started throwing them away and she would tell her to stop doing that. They stopped showing up in the container, but I started noticing a funny thing when I'd go to get a new pump. Somehow some of the "new" pumps had water in them. Funny, right? So our manager asked our DM for a suggestion on how to handle this, because our coworker is just not listening, and even though she has the most complaints out of everyone, and even the upper management people will avoid getting coffee when our coworker is alone, they do not feel they have enough on her to fire her, so she is just continuing to toodle along believing she is the only one there doing the correct things. Our DM finally suggested we mark the new ones when we use them to make it harder for her to just sneak them into the new pumps. But couldn't or wouldn't do anything else.
So yeah, we just kind of continue to go along behind her and fix what we can along with everything else we have to do.

What the fuck
n2bxl26 points1y ago
oof the middle compartment in our 3-compartment sink has a faulty drain plug and the entire basin gets a nice chocolatey brown before someone like me puts in the time and elbow grease to scrub it with a brush and Urnex lmao
salty_vs_salty [OP]10 points1y ago
Ew. How is that food safe? Also, this was the sanitize sink...I hadn't even started on the other two. 🤢
n2bxl4 points1y ago
yeah for us this is our rinse sink so even when the drain plug did work, we never filled it or stored any dishes there. but if not for my slight OCD, more than half the store would not be anywhere near standard *shudder*
aldrif-odinsdottir18 points1y ago
I don't think I've seen anyone but myself and the store manager wash their hands.
distraughtcato17 points1y ago
I’ve been here 3 months and have never heard/seen/participated in a clean play. When I asked about it one of the vets told me that they just close because closing already takes a really long time
lewabwee4 points1y ago
My first store often just closed for clean plays. We got out at clean play time. We were just chronically understaffed on Sundays for whatever reason, and Starbucks didn’t want to give us more labor, and so it always just took that long to close.
dgvelling2 points1y ago
We did our clean play in the middle of the day after rush. Is that not an option?
LatterRooster3 points1y ago
Clean play involves deeeeep cleaning. All of the things that are neglected throughout the months of closes. For example pulling out the milks and cleaning the fridges—all of them. Or cleaning the ice machine. These things cannot be done while the store is open.
dgvelling2 points1y ago
Oh gosh I forgot that already. Been two years now. I think some of it we did way earlier before the store opened but I was at 3 stores (2 different districts too) and each had different times. Ahhh the days when I worked at only a cafe one with no drive thru were the best….
LatterRooster2 points1y ago
I transferred because of some drama a shift couldn’t let go. Now I wish I hadn’t—they are gone and that store is still slow to moderate traffic. 😢 now I’m at a top ranked store but that’s based on how many customers per hour 70/80 all through peak until 11am

I stopped drinking any drink that requires me to pump anything from the metal pumps
salty_vs_salty [OP]2 points1y ago
We legit had mold growing in the sugar free mocha once because the closing shift kept "forgetting" to dump it. I know we served drinks from it before we realized she just changed the day dot. <shutter>
Animuthrowawayplz9 points1y ago
Our milk fridge had weird, dried snot hanging from the shelves and watery snot collecting at the bottom.
(This was the last time I had to spend two hours cleaning the milk fridge because our delivery guys are aggressive with our milks and crack open at least one of the gallons almost every day. So milk collects at the bottom and no one wipes it out. We had a cheese smell coming from the fridge and so the next day when I had time I spent like two hours cleaning it top to bottom. The time before that it took like five-ish hours to clean it. I've been making a point to wipe out the bottom when I have ten minutes every other shift so it doesn't get snotty again. I almost puked it smelled and looked so bad.)
akilllerjoke6 points1y ago
Hot tip use a fresh clean mop head on the mop stick on the bottom. Much safer than reaching under the shelves. If your launderer doesn't give you good mop heads use a bundle of towels instead
Animuthrowawayplz1 points1y ago
Oh I didn't think of that! I used the heavy duty spray on the walls, scrubbed the shelves in the sink, and then got on my hands and knees with gloves and lots of dry towels for the bottom before putting the last two shelves in. It sucked, but at least it's done for now. Using the mop head will make it easier next time.
jelizt9 points1y ago
Yes! The first thing I do before I start dishes is drain the dirty water they were using to “clean” then scrub the sink.
Voxxyvoo9 points1y ago
we havent changed out mats in 5+ years
smoolbeean8 points1y ago
half of my shift leads didnt even know the thick syrup pumps come completely apart and need to be throughly cleaned
ilovejimin3 points1y ago
oh god, one of my coworkers just puts the whole pump in the dishwasher to “clean” it …like why wouldn’t u just take it apart first at least 🤮 or if ur not gonna take it apart at least pump soap/water thru it until it’s clear 😭😭😭
salty_vs_salty [OP]2 points1y ago
Same!! I didn't take a pic of the "Clean" mocha pump sitting next to the sink that when I checked it was still full of mocha. 🤢
ChemicalBarnacle3 points1y ago
That’s why I always do it when no one is looking even though we aren’t “allowed to bring them to the front” because they are just so NASTY
smoolbeean1 points1y ago
me too. ill be cleaning in between customers
wifeypoopoo8 points1y ago
Fruit flies…..
evilash857 points1y ago
Lol that’s not even that bad. I’ve seen so much worse. My first store I ever worked at had maggots in the grout .
lewabwee3 points1y ago
My first location was part of a strip mall. The restaurant next to us had pest issues so we had pest issues. We cleaned pretty good. We had a pest guy coming out weekly sometimes. Couldn’t get rid of them because we share vents with some nasty fuckers.
salty_vs_salty [OP]1 points1y ago
It's definitely been worse. Wanted to get a convo going here! I feel so bad for all of us.
E-X-P-A-N-D6 points1y ago
Lmao yesterday I did clean play and our whole sink was like a brown yellow
[deleted]6 points1y ago
I came this close to taking a picture of my sink showing it to the union.
galex1612895 points1y ago
We're on day 3 of being closed for deep cleaning.
Accurate-Bumblebee145 points1y ago
What do you mean, "What's a floor drain?"
babyIoves4 points1y ago
okay but how did you do this 😭our stores sinks look like this & i just accepted that they're stained forever
flyingpurplefux4 points1y ago
Honestly I just scrub it with a scrubby pad and soap. It’s really easy and doesn’t take long
clumsycalico3 points1y ago
The bleach for the drains takes it off for me. I have no idea what we’re supposed to use to clean it though lmao.
vodwalyn2 points1y ago
liquid disinfectant! You guys can order it
narviat2 points1y ago
bleach and magic erasers!!!!!
salty_vs_salty [OP]1 points1y ago
Don't use magic erasers on food items. It causes microscratches that nasties can get in.
narviat2 points1y ago
but for stainless steel it works wonders!
lewabwee1 points1y ago
I’ve worked at quite a few stores. Some of the drains can be cleaned with the thick spirit and a magic eraser and some are stained forever.
Phoenix-19731 points1y ago
Magic eraser
lilkiosk3 points1y ago
We have had flies since I started… it’s been over a year 🥴
cobanat3 points1y ago
Bathroom cleaner works like a charm
lewabwee3 points1y ago
That’s not even bad, comparatively speaking.
SweetHoneydew_14443 points1y ago
Last week we had so much whipped cream down the drain the heavy cream in the floor drains started to solidify and the entire store flooded.. we empty the whipped cream cans in the trash can in the back now 🤢
BornLoquat92 points1y ago
NO Running Water!
We shut down and had to reopen during the middle of Peak!

i worked under a shitty sm for almost 2 years who just didn’t care, never did clean plays. we got a new sm and i did the first clean play in allegedly 3 years at my store and the ice machine was caked in mold, the bottom where the ice was, the back of the front panel, the actual ice trays 🤮🤮🤮
vulgar_witch2 points1y ago
This is clean compared to the store that borrowed me. I spent a week cleaning every inch of it myself. Maggots living in one of the trashcans, the cup caddy hadn't been cleaned in Satan knows how long, the mop bucket was coated in a layer of goop, the drains clogged, the steam wands didn't steam properly because the milk protein buildup was so bad... This is just a list of a few out of a hundred things wrong.
salty_vs_salty [OP]1 points1y ago
I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Gross.
AmariReign2 points1y ago
steam pitchers is where the truth is at!! I’ve determined who I can trust at my store depending on how they wash dishes 🤢
salty_vs_salty [OP]1 points1y ago
My old SM would urnex them and they'd be all shiny and new again. Not at this store. :(
aGrapeInUtero2 points1y ago
This is so frustrating. I am the only one who scrubs the sinks and dishes at my current store. Before I got there, the place had maggots. Now, it doesn’t. I’ve magic erased all of the backup containers, the tea pitchers, kegs, etc., using up every single magic eraser and they haven’t been restocked since. I’m sure all the ones they had in stock had been there for ages and that no one thinks to buy them. I’m going to a new store once it opens and I’m sure that once I leave it will return to its state before. And it’s not okay. They don’t keep things stocked, they don’t keep things clean, they don’t keep things organized.
There’s a woman that got hired at least 3 months ago. All day while she was on cafe bar she was asking question upon question upon question and they just let this continue. She should know how to make everything by now!!!!!
If your store manager is letting stuff like this happen, something needs to change. It. Is. Not. Ok.
InfiniteFriez2 points1y ago
There’s one drain, above all else, that attracts a trillion gnats.
Nobody knows why. It’s not used the most, it’s not a cold bar sink… it is always rancid though
[deleted]2 points1y ago
I never get anything from my current store for myself only if it's a cup. I don't trust certain co workers.
LatterRooster1 points1y ago
What do you mean clean the ice machine
keskobalt1 points1y ago
We use Curtis’ for strawberry açaí it doesn’t get washed so often it starts to ferment. We don’t drink our strawberry açaí anymore 🤢🤮
meloscav0 points1y ago
That looks like it could just be tannins from coffee and tea, but yeah it happens
