I feel bad for socially awkward customers (self.starbucksbaristas)

Today we got a mobile for a food we just ran out of and so I called out the name and lucky me M was in the cafe. I told her we didn't have her butter croissant or whatever and we could do any other pastry and i recommended a chocolate croissant or coffee cake and she was like "nah idk" so i told her to go up front for a refund and walked away.

2m later i see her still standing in the same corner waiting for her drink and i tell her if she wants a refund we can give it to her at the front. She refuses and goes "nah im okay its good" after me asking if she's sure like twice

i mean, isn’t that kind of assuming a lot? i’ve been shocked by the amount of times customers have been either too lazy/too busy to stay for the refund process. also the cost of the croissant may not have been enough to “take the extra time” for the customer. i wouldn’t instantly assume they’re too scared or socially awkward, although that could still potentially be the reason.
