ughhhhhhh (self.starbucksbaristas)

Is the fan outside the window supposed to be on all day? I'm usually DTR or DTO and I feel like when it's set to summer the customer (and my arms) get freezing right now. Like to where I can see that people are shivering... or they roll up their window and then we have to grab their attention to make them roll it down.

Thing is one of the other baristas thinks she knows better than any of us and is on DTO today. Every time I turn it off, she turns it right back on cuz "it keeps flies out". Ma'am, it is 48 degrees outside. THERE. ARE. NO. FLIES. OUTSIDE.

I even tried setting it to heat so then they aren't freezing but she complained cuz she "was getting too hot". Which is understandable cuz it does get pretty warm but it's 48 degrees outside... there's no reason to have the fan on?

It's not a major issue, just an annoyance especially since last time I turned it off she stalked past me, stared at it, huffed, and then turned it back on and then turned to stare at me with this look of fake innocence like 'what r u gonna do?'. Which is number 4603023 that one day I'm gonna just snap at this girl (I think she purposefully does things that she knows annoys everyone else, including talk nonstop about her 2 year old dog Sampson who apparently "makes her 10+ minutes late to work cuz he won't go in his crate").

I believe that it does need to be on, but there’s also a heat option

Yeah I know. She just turns it to summer (cold) setting.

Sorry that someone else is controlling how your position is done temp wise:(
OSHA does require the fan to be running constantly and if they came to evaluate your store and it’s off it would be marked as a violation.
If you think the summer one is too cold def turn it to heat and tell your DTO to buzz off respectfully. She’s right in having it on but shouldn’t determine the temp since she’s not under it

I do continually turn it to heat - but then she changes it back to cold cuz she's too hot. It's like "excuse me? I'm under it next to the window and I'm freezing".

Yes I'm constantly cold but I also am trying to think about the fact that people have their windows down and the fan is blowing cold air into their cars when it's 48 degrees outside. If I were sitting in a drive thru I'd prefer a heater going rather than a cold fan when it's 48... that's just a courtesy thing tbh to me (and a human kindness aspect also).

She'll legit stand there like 🧍‍♀️ and stare at me like "what are you going to do?" cuz in her mind she's better suited to take charge. She apparently was a manager at McDs prior to Starbucks... meanwhile the highest position I've ever held... well, I'm a grad student and I'm older than her by like 4 years. That's about it so technically she has more experience in fast food... but at least I don't take four minutes to make a Carmel Crunch (we timed her one time when she was on cold bar cuz we were curious - she is no longer asked to do cold bar during peak).

Maybe alternating every 15 minutes as a compromise? Or wearing extra layers? It’s no fun working when you are freezing 😟

I don't think she'll go for that or she'll glare/t-pose for 15 minutes whenever it's on heat. One of the other baristas is going to cosmetology school and she decided to go to have the other barista practice on her. Well apparently this girl walked into the school, stopped on the threshold with her arms in a relaxed t-pose-like position and was like "I am here for (other barista's) appointment".

So I wouldn't put it past her to sit there and turn it back or glare at me. It's not worth me getting pissy with her cuz she won't compromise. We almost had an argument about it today but I bit my tongue and took the high road (very rare for me).

I might be doing the extra layers tho. I just gotta figure out where my cold winter things are hiding in my apartment.

Switch it to heat
MayhemBiker94 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I tried. She switches it back to the regular "summer" fan which blows cold air out cuz she gets too hot. Which is understandable cuz it does get hot but her reasoning is "the air keeps the flies out"... I'm in Indiana so it's true when it's like 75+ out... but right now it was 48 this morning. It's too cold (especially during the morning) to have a fan on.
