iced espressos with extra milk vs lattes?(self.starbucksbaristas)

so for people ordering espressos with extra milk whats really the differences between that and a latte, other than maybe putting the ice before the milk. in the end isn’t it basically becoming an iced latte? i’m only confused about it because someone ordered espresso shots (not over ice!) with some steamed milk and my manager told them next time they’d have to be charged for a latte. but we have regulars who come in for venti iced espressos with extra milk filled to the top lol 😭. do you guys ever charge them as lattes?

The price is the difference. The cheapos do this to avoid paying for a latte. Our store charges for a latte plus any additional shots if they want more than 4oz of cream/milk

ugh 😭 like maybe i wouldn’t mind, but theyll stand their staring at us while we pour the milk and tell us put more if it’s not filled to the very top. it’s very annoying… idk if my manager would say anything to regulars but maybe i’ll bring it up next time 😭 or at least just tell them if they want that much milk they’ll have to get a latte

just gently remind them that next time they should order a latte if they want that much milk on top of the espresso. i always got a nasty look when i said it but i don't care. what's important is making sure every other partner at the store is doing the same.

Inform them of the policy, if your manager doesn't back you up they are a twat. I always Inform the customer at the register that if I exceed 4oz then it will be rung as a latte. If they ask for cream on the side I give them a sample cup. Another thing to do is que the shots and them fill with ice over it to they veeeeeery top. Squeeze the cup as you go so the espresso rises over the ice and looks full. The cream usually them doesn't exceed 4oz. If they want shots over ice with light ice rest milk again charge for a latte. It's the same with shaken espressos. But each store is different. I can spot a scammer from a mile away. I'm always very polite and very firm with a loud, confident tone of voice when I speak policy and it tends to work 90% of the time. If they use the excuse that the other Starbucks does it, I simply say that some stores don't properly enforce policy but here we are very strict on following rules and have to. If your manage Says do it then just do it, but it IS I violation of policy technically.

if they want it filled to the top with the milk, you can press the “add dairy” button at the bottom which will go ahead and charge them

It's like a dollar at some locations. The price of a latte exceeds the price of shots add dairy, which means the customer is still being a cheapo
