Unionizing? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Bpp__
What are everyone’s thoughts on unionizing? Specifically what’s happening in Buffalo, but also on a much larger scale. I feel like all I ever see on here are horror stories of overworked, overwhelmed, and underpaid baristas. I know I’ve certainly had my fair share of all three! What would be effective strategies? How would we ensure the union services the workers? How do we get National and global cohesion? Idk… thinking about a lot, would love to hear others thoughts!

Right now I'm just hoping buffalo succeeds. It looks like sbux is doing their absolute best to squash every attempt at unionizing there is :(

Yes they’re doing their best to actually address the problems baristas are telling them they have.

By shutting down their store and forcing them to drive / get transportation to a store they didn't originally work at?

Don’t think it’s necessary. I think people just want an excuse to fight with corporate.

People aren’t getting enough hours, some states still have terrible wages and at minimum the workers deserve a place in which they can democratically speak their truth.

BEING GREEDY. I've been on foodstamps the 5 years I've worked for this company and you're calling me GREEDY for asking for a higher wage. Please.

I can always leave a union, but starting one is the most important step. Also what you're describing is literally Democracy. I was sad when Trump won in 2016 because that didn't align with what I wanted (nor with what the majority of the population wanted, he lost by a few million popular votes). I typically believe that most people are reasonable. Also having your opinion being downvoted is also democracy at work lol
