green bean help (self.starbucksbaristas)

i’ve been a new partner for a little under a month. At first i felt like i got the hang of things pretty quickly but already i feel like i mess up too much. my team has been super cool about everything for the most part, telling me it happens and everyone does it, but i just feel like i do it TOO much. Like today, i was on dto and literally almost every other car i feel like i messed something up. Either my customer service was not there or i messed up ringing in the order. I really like this job, i really enjoy my team, but i feel like i’m bringing everyone down and making their lives 10x harder!!! 😭

You're psyching yourself out. It's okay to make mistakes, we don't expect you to be perfect. Sometimes people get stressed and snap, and when they do, it's NOT your fault.

I've seen a shift manager make whips with 2% milk.

ummm. i could have written this myself! really and truly! i started on October 4th so … almost three weeks. i feel like i make the team’s job sooo much harder but everyone has been nice to me and literally tells me the same thing. i handed out a wrong drink today and my coworker giggled and said everyone has done it once and will do it again at some point. idk though i hate being a newbie. i hate feeling like i’m a burden when i don’t know what i’m doing. the only consolation i have for you is you’re literally not alone in feeling this way. i promise.

Hi! I'm a fellow green bean approaching my fourth month! I just want to let you know, as I'm starting to be the one to answer questions and help the younger green beans, you are not a pain! It's all a part of the learning process, and it's not hard to answer a question, or make a drink that was wrong. The biggest thing to remember, is that it's just coffee!! The more mistakes you make, the more experiences there are to learn and grow from. And if you're team is telling you you're not a bother, you're good! Just give it some more time. I'm still asking questions and getting things wrong too so it happens. Just breathe, and keep going!

I’m about 4 months in and I’m slowly checking off every mistake in the book. To me, every mistake feels like a rite of passage. I feel like everyone has to make these mistakes at least once or else we won’t truly know how to prevent them. I see it as an ongoing learning experience. From slipping and falling hard on the floor with two trash bags in my hand, to getting sprayed in the face by the cold bar rinser now and again. It all happens to everyone :)

I’ve been there for years, and if I’m working in a position long enough, I’ll still fuck stuff up a few times. I spill things to varying degrees like every other shift. It’s really fine. Recognize what you did wrong, if it’s something you didn’t know, then learn from it. Otherwise, shit happens. If you’re struggling, just ask for help, and then make sure to say thank you. You’ll get the hang of it.

Literally everyone messes up for the first few months, tbh. It’s a ton to learn at once and no one expects you to remember it immediately.
