Union Literature in stores? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by StarbzBoi
I was wondering if it was possible to get some union literature in the form of maybe a pdf that could be printed and anonymously start showing up in the back rooms and partner break areas all around the United States? Something with information how to get in touch with local organizers and maybe some references to major news articles about Buffalo (times, vice, etc) and to the Starbucks Workers United Twitter. Something like this could even be spread on subreddits or local/national Starbucks Facebook groups to encourage the spread of information. Just a thought.

I wouldn’t let union material just lay around in the store. Don’t say a word about unions except around people you trust and know feel the same way. You don’t want your manager or corporate hearing whispers about unionization at your store before you’re actually able to do something because they will squash it so fast before you can do any organizing. You have to be strategic and slowly build support.

I think my point is to hopefully reach a bigger audience and start a more broad conversation within stores about the state of the company and what’s happening in Buffalo because many store level partners have no idea what’s going on. I agree with you there may be a response from management locally but corporate can’t deal with putting out little fires all over the country. They have a massive response in Buffalo which couldn’t be sustained all over. I also know atleast in my case that my manager and probably other managers and maybe even DMs believe in what’s happening in Buffalo and think the company needs a change of direction. Corporate is sucking us all dry including managers so I would be hard pressed to see them want to stop making the company better.

Roseanne shot herself in the foot by sending out a company wide message. She did the job of spreading the word for you. Organizing starts small. Yes you’re right, corporate can’t put out small fires all over the country. But there won’t be any fires to put out if you aren’t careful and strategic. We can have discussions as a larger audience once we actually have people on board with it, not the other way around. Partners need to start organizing at their stores and then we can collectively have a broader conversation. If you want to have partners individually distribute union literature at their stores you might as well just have them speak to trusted partners and start organizing because I literally promise you distributing literature will screw us over and is not the way to get what you want done.
