Regarding drug tests (self.starbucksbaristas)

I want apply to Starbucks around here and I have had marijuana in my system but I’m not a frequent user. I was using weekly but stopped for a week and had used it once within that said week. Do they drug test for preemployment or should I wait before it is out of my system?

Literally almost every single person who works at my store smokes, SM included. One of the few who doesn’t only doesn’t Bc she’s in nursing school and gets tested regularly lol.

If you're applying to a *standalone,* corporate-run Starbucks, they do not drug test so you are fine. If you are applying to a Starbucks located inside another store, like a Target Starbucks, that may change. Target drug tests, IIRC, for example.

Hey I have a question ! I’ve worked at target as a barista for a little under a year and I have gauges that meet Starbucks standards but they’re starting to bother me about them and say it’s not acceptable for target, do you have any knowledge/resources or anything that can prove or disprove that?
I’m asking because the current team lead I have cannot open, make tea/ice coffee, and barely write drink IDs and I don’t trust her with this either. Appreciate your time !

when i first was hired to a kroger sbux they drug tested me but then when i've been hired at stand alone locations they haven't. they were in illegal states too so this is a good tip

The company stance is that addiction is considered a mental illness and we don't punish people for having a mental illness, and also do not refuse to hire for such. So smoke all you want, just not at work, and if you do smoke at work, not in the mop sink.

this reminds me of a shift supervisor that worked at my store before i was hired and was arrested during a shift for dealing drugs out of her car with her apron (plus nametag) in full view.

So I am in the middle of peak and run to the back of house to grab some venti lids we ran out of and notice it smells weird in the BOH. I don't mean like, weed weird, it was unfamiliar and almost fruity?
I look at the Hobart and the sink and everything is fine, then realize it's coming from near the mop sink. I round the corner and see a partner hunkered over like smeagol with their back to me INSIDE the mop sink. I'm like "what are you doing?" They spin around and they're like "oh uhh... Just vaping." Keep in mind this partner has directly told me they use their vape only for THC oil. I'm like.... "You can't do that in the mop sink." They tried to tell me they thought since they were in the sink and not on the floor it was okay.
THEY LITERALLY MEANT NOT STANDING ON THE FLOOR.
This did, in fact, violate our policy around ecigs and led to separation. :: Facepalm ::

Most food places don’t drug test because the kitchen industry is full of drugs- they wouldn’t be able to hire anyone. I’ve been at places where they drug test if they think you’re high at work but that’s uncommon; I’ve seen chefs obviously on coke and nothing was done about it.

Nah they dont and certain states such as NY no longer include marijuana in drug tests for employment (excluding police officers,teachers, government employees and stuff like that) i dont work for SB just love this sub but neither of my jobs test. And i give yall credit. I wish they'd give you the money you deserve. When i heard how much some of you make per hour i was shocked.

Many of my fellow baristas, SSVs, and even SM used drugs of various uh… schedules of controlled substances. As long as whatever you’re using doesn’t interfere with your job, Starbucks doesn’t seem to care.

There are at least 8 people that have come through this Starbucks, and more for Target itself, who smoke weed regularly. REGULARLY. Like, a dude that works in my section smokes before he clocks in, at lunch, and just before he clocks out. They do not care. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

No, It may be somewhere in the paperwork that you consent to a drug test under reasonable suspicion, but that is just an in case for later down the road if drug use becomes a problem in your work attendance and performance they can test to pinpoint a reason to fire you, but even in that case pretty sure you’d have to show up on hard crack for them to test you.

If its inside a store (ie, Target, Kroger, etc) they may or may not drug test. I used to work at Target (not as a barista, just as an employee at target) and they didnt drug test for target or starbucks. I now work at a corporate run Starbucks and they didnt drug test either. However, I'm not sure if it's different depending on state (assuming op is in the US). You should be good, just dont come to work stoney bologna or give them a reason to need to test lol.

No drug tests unless you get hurt at work doin something stupid and in that case they have to as a part of the incident report. No worries, just don’t futz around on ladders and you’re all good

My store has never done a test and I know because many of my partners take part in a certain herb 😂
